UC Berkeley--Transfer Admits for Class of 2013

It seems like there ought to be a thread for this already, but I couldn't find one. Now that decisions are over it might be useful to check in with where we all SIR'd. It might also be helpful to have a place to ask questions about CalSo, adjusting to Berkeley, etc.

Anyway, as you might have guessed and as my location confirms, I SIR'd for Cal at 8:30 this morning. I toured the campus yesterday (Hi, Tom!) and was very impressed. I loved that they have reserved parking spaces for Nobel Laureates--that says a lot.

I'm looking forward to getting my @berkeley.edu email address... How long did it take everyone to get added to the system after SIRing? I believe the official policy is "within 72 hours."

yup, within 72 hours. i think i got mine within 48 though. it’s really an amazing thing to see that @berkeley.edu after your name!

do you know when we find out if our SLRs went through or not? Like when do they tell us that we’re officially classified as CA citizens?

I was able to sign up for my @berkeley.edu within 24 hours after submitting the SIR. I also signed up for June 9th Calso. Go bears!

Crap, looks like Spring admits don’t get email addresses until later. One space says they’ll be available in June, another says September. :(

^ouch. well, as long as you get it eventually it doesn’t matter.

i just want orientation to get here alreaddyyyyyyyyyy. June 9th letss goooo
but i’m visiting Berkeley again this weekend haha YAY

oh and i found out the answer my SLR question - They say it’s going to take about 3-5 weeks for them to process it or whatever. So three more weeks until I panic lol

I SIR’d to Cal on April 30 right when decisions were posted. (excited much? Lol) I’m from San Diego, have never been to NorCal, and am moving up with my boyfriend as soon as this semester is over. I’m enrolled for session D of summer and am going to the June 15th SoCal :)

I’m virtually ready to SIR to Berkeley. Now that I have heard back from them, approving my dropping of a recommended course (phew!!!). I must say it was reaalllly tough choosing between Cal and UCLA (I’m still torn :frowning: ) …but in the end one must choose.

I will be visiting Cal on the 20th (yes, to visit the campus, check it out and “close the deal” so to speak), but in reality I’ve already made up my mind. After that I will get to the nearest computer and submit the SIR!!

Since I’m an EECS major I can attend Calso on the 9th or 23rd. Haven’t decided on the date yet.

I got to make my email address within 24 hours. I was so impatient LOL.

I SIR’d on May 7th, after going to the reception at Berkeley, which only finalized my decision. After a week of dying between UCLA (my dream school) and Berkeley (the one I didn’t think I would get into), and checking out UCLA, I realized I wanted to stay home in the Bay Area – Berkeley feels more me. I only live half an hour away from Cal so taking a tour wasn’t really necessary for me.

Signed up for the June 30th CalSo… only because I’m on the quarter system. :(

is there anyone who knows what “phase II” is?
:)

HELLO CLASSMATES

I’ll be at CalSO June 9

I keep saying we should go out for drinks the night before, but I think I am on average 10 years older than most of you. HA

Google “Berkeley Phase II”!!

dezziner - being on the quarter system didn’t stop me from signing up for the first (June 9th)CalSO…LOL, I have to take a midterm earlier because of it but whatevs.

I also think I may have the record time of submitting my SIR to Berkeley…did it about 20ish minutes after I got in. That’s when I could finally see through the tears.

Yeah it’s just the fact that the CalSOs kept falling on classes that I’ve maxed out attendance on LOL. Don’t wanna miss stuff for the final either.

yeah i actually just started to seriously make some friends in my classes so i could coerce them into forming a study group with me for the final! watch out berkeley, here comes a miscreant.

edit: Thinking about it, don’t people at Berkeley do that too? hahahhaa it was just meant to be

do we get to choose our own @berkeley.edu address or is it taken off our cal id

you can choose your own!

Question for a current student…

I’m a Spring admit, and I’d like to live in Wada Hall. While Wada is one of the most popular housing options, its still apparently possible for a Spring admit to get in (our own emilsinclair did).

This site says that Wada is considered off-campus for financial aid budgeting purposes:
[Living at Cal 2011-2012, UC Berkeley Housing](http://www.housing.berkeley.edu/livingatcal/unit2_wada.html)

Does this mean I need to change my Housing Type in MyFinAid to off-campus? Will this have a big impact on my financial aid award? If I change my Housing Type to off-campus but don’t get a spot in Wada, will I have any trouble changing back to on-campus?

Thanks!

Nick - You still have a chance of getting into Wada during the Spring, but it really depends on how many people want to cancel the spring portion of their contract. There are typically students who want to cancel out of Wada, but there is no guarantee because it is still based on lottery numbers.

At this point you don’t need to change anything because you don’t have an offer. After you get an offer for housing you can make changes. The difference between on and off-campus housing is about $4000. You should talk to financial aid directly to get an exact amount.

When did they say we would find out about our housing assignments? Late June? So basically a month?!?! AHHHHHHH love.

I’m actually starting to like Berkeley being on the semester system because we find everything out so much quicker than the other UCs on the quarter system haha…not sure if that’s the best reason to like the semester system though…

and LESS THAN TWO WEEKS UNTIL ORIENTATION!!!

Hi all! I sent in my SIR about a week ago, in the Spring 2012 transfer boat as well. I wanted to get the opinion of a current student on how difficult it is to double major as a transfer. I applied as a prospective English major, but reading about the major in Rhetoric has really caught my interest. Do I have time to do both?
