UC Berkeley Transfer Decisions 2013

@yousee, that’s awesome - I have a 3.84 and Good luck to you as well. Did you TAP UCLA? I had several friends who applied as Psychology transfers with TAP and were admitted, as low as 3.75 GPA (That same person was also admitted to Cal)! So good news for LA, but with Cal, there’s no telling, lol.

@mrandall, the campus is beautiful. I’ve only been to Cal, UCI, SD, and LA’s campuses. UCLA was the only comprable one and in fact arguably nicer; but, I still liked Cal better (Cal’s buildings all seemed to have a slightly different style of architecture as opposed to LA’s single themed buildings - I think…it’s been a while since I’ve been to LA’s). However, they’re doing large scale construction on a major building at Cal…kind of an eye sore.

Any Poli Sci majors out there? I have applied to Berk with only a 3.5 (had one really bad sem that kinda murdered my otherwise high GPA), strong essays, and moderate EC’s and I am hella nervous. I would love to go to Berkeley but I expect my subpar GPA to be my downfall :/

@jeanmarc
What did you hear was so bad about the Berkeley college experience?
Its not the first I’ve heard, and it makes me really hesitant…
Is it the level of difficulty that makes it bad?

@ mrandall

I applied and was accepted to UC Davis.

@aztecstudent

I’m also a political science major too! Hoping super hard to get into Cal, floating a 3.95 GPA right now. EC’s and PS seem alright, but we’ll see. Wish they would do the profile of admitted students similar to what UCLA does.

I’m a Psych major too! Applying with a 3.81 GPA. I did the UCB TAP program and have all pre-reqs completed. I am super nervous because I feel like it could go either way for both schools! I feel good about my essays and “life story” aspect of the application, but I wish my GPA was a little higher.

Good luck everyone!

I am a Psych major as well! I have a 3.93 gpa, but I didn’t do the TAP program. Oh and I’m missing a pre-req for Berkeley, so that is probably not good… But UCLA is my number one choice so I was mainly focusing on UCLA’s pre-reqs.

Is missing a pre req. a huge deal? When I filled out that form in December/January, I didn’t have the environmental science pre-req and an Organic Chemistry lab for the second semester. My school doesn’t offer any environmental science classes and the major I’m in now, I don’t think I’m allowed or at least I’m not required to take Organic Chemistry II lab since I’m in a PharmD track.

@Marquis

I think if your school does not offer the pre-req class then Berkeley knows about. I called admissions on this once and they said if no class is articulated then it is ok not to have them done.

@kay1541, Alright thank you! The environmental science course my school doesn’t offer, but for the organic chemistry lab II, I’m not positive whether I was allowed to take it, I only know PharmSci and Pre-med kids take it.

Gosh I am so nervous for the 26th! It doesn’t help that I have an ochem midterm that day. It’s going to be difficult to focus. :P

Cal has been my dream school since I was a kid. I’m a UC-UC transfer so I know that my chances are really (really) low, but fingers crossed. I’m a psych major with a 3.88 gpa but I’m hoping my essays make it for me… I wrote my first one on my research experience and TAing, and my second one on moving to the US during my junior year of high school. But realistically, I know it’s a crapshot.

Good luck to all! The application process has been so stressful – even a rejection will put my mind at ease. I hope it’s acceptances for us all, though!

Any OOS applicants?

@Itayla: Awesome! Congrats and good luck, I guess you can ignore what I posted on your profile then. :p

@Sarah: Well, it’s not simply that it’s challenging, but that it’s apparently challenging for the wrong reasons.

I’ve also heard that many students aren’t that socially active, that the authorities bust a lot of parties and small things, that the town sucks, high crime, and really annoying left-wingers. I’ve also heard that film courses, along with a couple other areas, are always packed… =</p>

Also, a quote from a friend:
“The only cons are that it is very, very academically challenging (which is good and bad) and the Tang Center (our lovely college hospital) is horrible. And that perhaps that it is expensive to live here (housing)…” and later > “some people are ‘cut throat’”

This girl is a super smart asian who took only AP classes and juggled tons of EC’s and got straight A’s and son on. If she says it’s “very, very academically challenging” then I believe it.

I’m paying for my own college, and I don’t want to spend any extra time/money getting my degree because of some crazy professor’s grading style.

EDIT: P.S. Not trying to be a negative downer, I’m sure Berkeley’s a good school, it’s the UC flagship after all. Anyone who can get in ought to be proud. It’s just not for everyone.

I’m a psych major too! But I ONLY have a 3.82 and I didnt do TAP :frowning: you guys are all making me nervous haha
I finished all prereqs though :/

Woah am I intimidated. I’m a 3.41 GPA Rhetoric Major with TAP.

@JeanMarc
Thanks for sharing that. I’ve heard similar things from many people. It really does make me nervous to go there if I do end up getting in, but I guess we’ll see.
I don’t mind if its challenging but I have heard that some teachers are just ridiculous when it comes to grading and tests and stuff. I guess even if I don’t LOVE it, its only 2 years of my life and a lifetime of having a degree from an amazing school.
I guess I’ll worry about it if it becomes a possibility on Friday!

applied to cal for philosophy, so nervous!!!

@CQBanana, I’ve heard that TAP is really beneficial to students who’ve applied to Cal. As far as your pre-reqs, are you completing them this semester? Even if not, I’m pretty sure UCB doesn’t require all of them to be completed prior to admission (at least for my school), but its just preferred.

@UCducb, your application sounds very strong. I met a girl at Cal Day on Saturday who had transferred from UCD to UCB as a Psyc major…I wish I had gotten her GPA! But I hope the best for you.

Does anyone have any insight for me? I’m a junior level community college student hoping to transfer to Berkeley as a Linguistics major with a 3.6 GPA. I’m not proud of my supplement essays, but I’m not ashamed. I really hope I get in but I’m a pessimist. Do the decisions come out this Friday? Please let me know if you can help! Good luck everyone! :)

Hey guys, any idea if Berkeley would be generous enough to accept out of state students? I heard only 1 OOS student was accepted last fall
