@Swwwwwyygvv I’m applied math major, and I’m also international student!!
@dzb1998 did you get accepted?
@diane6239 I was advised by an admission officer that content matters more than when you submitted it. She said they don’t review anyone before the deadline. It could be that our major is coming up next given the fact that it is a pretty trendy major at the moment.
@diane6239 probably not. I am a CS major, international student from a CCC, submitted my opt-in on April 29 and haven’t heard back
@FequalsMG yeah you’re probably right! I’m overthinking it lol. I really hope at least one if not all of us International and CS major gets in!!!
hi guys, i don’t know if this is the right spot to ask, but i’ll do so anyway lol. sorry in advanced–
i got in from the waitlist on 6/7. however, i don’t have the option of filling a housing application for fall 2018, and i only see it for summer 2018?? are we hobos and have to find off-campus housing? hahahah pls help me
Did you pay the SIR?
@yinxuan i didn’t have to pay an sir surprisingly. but yes, i accepted berk’s offer
Are we allowed to accept Berkeley’s offer then accept UCLA if we get in…? Bec Berkeley only gave me til the 13th to accept and I’m also waiting to hear back from LA…
I submitted on 5/14/18
I submitted my waitlist opt in form on 5/12 but I got accepted on 6/7, so I don’t think it matters. I think the content of essay is most important.
Hey guys, I was hoping I could get a little feedback about whether or not Berkeley is the wisest choice for a premed student. I SIR’d to UCR mainly because 1)it’s 15 minutes from home so I’ll be saving money and 2)they have the Thomas haider program where 24 spots in UCR’s med school comes from a pool of applicants that are qualified UCR students. However, I told myself that if I got off the Berkeley waitlist, I would choose Berkeley. I’ve been met with a lot of opposition from family in this decision which is why I’ve been hesitating to SIR. They bring up the fact that Berkeley grade deflation and competitiveness might weaken my gpa and that getting a higher gpa at UCR is better than a lower one at Berkeley. There’s also the fact that I would be spending a lot more money. Idk. This is just such a huge decision and I want to get it right.
@itslit I think that’s the best course of action to accept Berkeley then wait for LA. If LA ends up accepting you, then you can cancel Berkeley admittance and help another fellow gets off the waitlist from Berkeley
@diane6239 it doesn’t matter I think, I sent mine around the 10th too!
Hi everyone, do we have any psychology major here? Anyone got off the waitlist yet? From last year’s posts, psych dept didn’t take anyone off the waitlist at the first wave, but only around 6/20. Would that be the same this year?
@caltransfer2018 I would like to think so because it’s the same case for CS. We just have to wait and see!
@vt2496590 you seem to have stronger reasons to attend UCR rather than Berkeley or rather you mostly mentioned the reasons why UCR would be a better choice. What would be your reasons to attend Berkeley besides “it is the #1 public university”? All I can suggest is to weigh the pros and cons of attending each and then make your choice rationally. That being said, I know you’d do great no matter what you choose and please let us know what your final decision turns out to be!!!
@itslit to answer your question, yes it is possible. and at this point it would be the smartest thing for you to do. SIR to Berkeley then wait for UCLA. one thing tho is as soon as you SIR at UCLA if you do get off their waitlist, you would need to let Berkeley know that you will no longer attend.
Hey! I was at a similar reasons impasse between davis and berkeley for a lot of the same reason except for the money. All I can say is, do what makes you happiest and do what you believe is the right environment for you to really thrive. Grade deflation and competitiveness I believe is a weak con for Berkeley, you’ll find that anywhere and everywhere. The real world is competitive and cutthroat, I think it’s a weak preconception that berkeley is all of that. Concerning money, figure out how much debt you’d be in after 2 years and consider if you think that it’s worth it! GPA is definitely important though, and where you get it from is a slight advantage a very slight one at that. Especially considering the fact that to be on track for med school after graduation, you’ll have to be taking the MCAT this following summer, it’s something else to think about. Like I said, do what makes you happiest!! If you’re not happy and full of regret in your decision it would affect your studies.
Does anyone get signs of indication of admission today?
