Hello everyone my name is Carlos and I am a Sociology Major! I'm also getting a minor in public policy. I'm moving up to UCB on the 20th and i was wondering what do up in Berkeley. I'm a Southern Cali, LA and I need some advice...Thanks

^Welcome week will be a blast. Mostly inebriation (sp?) though.

ilovecalifornia, thats the major I want to apply to at UCB! I read about it and I think it;s really interesting. It pretty much sums up all my cllege interests, Politics, economics and a little business. Whats the deal with that program? Selectivity that kinda stuff...

PEIS? I think it's a brand new program hence the selectivity and capped status.

Sorry if it's dump question, but what does capped mean? Anything like a capped salary?

They only allow so many students into the major.

EDIT: Not a dumb question at all. This forum is for questions.

peis isn't brand new..i think its been around for at least 7 years so yea its pretty new...

and thefreshprince. thats pretty cool! glad to find another peis applicant.

do you have all your stuff done or planned to be done with the major prep and igetc?

I'm gonna be a freshman in college in case u were gonna ask my progress lol

i dont want PEIS to be capped and selective! cardinal are you sure its capped?

i wish somebody would just hand me the transfer rates into that major = ( i can't find that info anywhere

"i dont want PEIS to be capped and selective! cardinal are you sure its capped?

At orientation, the kept refering to PEIS as a capped major. I don't know you should double check.

"i wish somebody would just hand me the transfer rates into that major = ( i can't find that info anywhere"

Even though its probably capped, I wouldn't think it is that competitive. Certainly no where near like getting into Haas.

ya (thanks for info)

i know its suppose to be the most popular (or one of the most popular) majors in undergraduate and interdisciplinary studies in the L&S category of course..but i just wish i could find out the exact transfer rates...

is there anyway i could find out, or does UC Berkeley not make this kind of information on public on purpose?

its one thing if they dont make it public its another if its just not out there and i can still find out through research. anyone know?

Thanks Cardinal

I'd like to know more about PEIS admissions wise also. I looked through the site a lot but it only seemed to explain the courses involved. I wish they had the same type of info as the UCLA site.....

To ilovecalifornia: I haven't finished my IGETC yet, I'll be beginning my sophomore year this fall so I should be done soon. MY plan is to have it all done by app time

good luck freshprince! nice to know we're sorta semi-in the same boat..at least in research and interest in the major lol i def haven't found out much either about selectivity and i've even talked to counselors and 'important' advisors who didn't say much about statistics. whats ur gpa

3.6 now :/ hopefully be around a 3.8 by application time. What CCC are you attending ?

they don't keep your record if you applied before... whats the point for a university to keep your record if you were rejected? think about it.

thats exactly what i was thinking but apparently your information stays there....think about it, wouldn't they want to keep info on everyone who applies...for future reference or for statistics or something...iono the good reason behind it, but i've found out they do keep you in there some where, they just dont use your freshman application at all when considering you for transfer applications...(i asked this knowledgable transfer coordinator guy..at berkeley)
