UC Berkeley: Transportation.

Hello, so I got admitted to UC Berkeley and UCLA (I was lucky!) and I'm debating where to attend. I will most likely to be attending UC Berkeley in Spring 2012 as I'm a Spring admit. I won't be able to bring my car to Berkeley if I attend and I don't know anything about NorCal since I've been living in LA.

Is it possible to live without a car? I mean, I know it is possible, but I heard that cars are not that necessary in Berkeley since their transportation is way better than ones in LA. It's almost impossible to live without a car in LA (well at least for me! haha) Is anyone else not planning to bring a car? Please let me know! :D Thank you in advance!

I visited a friend in Berkeley and you really dont need a car to get around. The bus and Bart is fine. Although you might want to get that student discount because when i visited berkeley for a week i at least dropped around 50 bucks alone on transportation. waaah…congratulations on LA and Berkeley! better take Berkeley :)

I was just reading about this earlier today! There’s something called the “Class Pass,” which is a part of your student fees. Check it out: [Class Pass for Students | UC Berkeley - Parking & Transportation](http://pt.berkeley.edu/pay/transit/classpass)

There’s a decent bus system and BART will be your best friend since you it’ll take you all over the Bay Area (well except the South Bay but I doubt you’d really want to go there). Most of the people I know who go/went to Berkeley didn’t have cars and they got around fine.

Thank you guys! I also keep hearing that I don’t really a car at Berkeley from my friends. You guys are really helpful! So if I’m a Berkeley student, I get to ride BART and buses for free? as long as I paid student registration fee? Thanks!! :D

I don’t think you get BART for free – maybe a discount? I don’t know about the bus since I drive around in the Bay Area lol.
