UC Berkeley/UCLA Transfer from CC. Chance me?!

Hello everyone,

I applied to most of the UCs but have always wanted to go to UCLA or UC Berkeley for political science. The third choice is USC. I am majoring in political science with a focus on international relations.

Important aspects that may be relevant in admissions process:
GPA: 3.72 as of last semester (not including this one)
-founder and president of successful community service oriented club on campus
-Minority/first generation: Afghan-American (female, if it matters)
-Personal statement 8/10 in my opinion, one is 9/10 but both average out to an 8
-In the TAP honors program for UCLA, will exceed the 15 honors unit minimum after Spring '15
-Graduated sophomore year of high school and started community college right after
-Have dropped only one class with a 'W' - an English class (English101) from this semester
-Have done A LOT of community service with various organizations both in and out of school
-Work full time while going to school

Will chance you if you chance me!

@zoeyschmoey, concerning UCLA you have a fair shot of getting in. Their average GPA of accepted students for pre-political science was 3.75 in their college of L&S, with a 3.7 average enrollment (might see a slight change in statistics there. After your semester ends, if you manage to raise this to a 3.75 - the better. The fact you have ONE W, will not very much play a significant role, but I would have explained it regardless if you’re too anxious on it.

You might have an edge in UC Berkeley, but considering the competitive rigor of the program, it seems like flipping a coin once for it, which isn’t too bad anyway.

So if I were to put it quantitatively, would guess 1/2-2/3 in for UCB, and [3-4]/5 in for UCLA.

Must say you’re far more academically cleaner in terms of the Ws without the initial freshman slip of grades, LOL. Good luck with your further studies!
