UC Berkeley v. Cornell's College of Human Ecology

Hey everyone! I have a quick question.

Right now, I am a freshman at UC Berkeley and I'm a nutritional science major in the College of Natural Resources. When I applied to colleges in senior year, I received the transfer option from Cornell's College of Human Ecology. I'm from California, but the HBHS major in the College of Human Ecology was my top choice. If you don't know, the transfer option is sort of like a guaranteed/conditional transfer option. I can go there in my sophomore year if I take certain classes here at UC Berkeley. I honestly cannot decide. I love the atmosphere of Berkeley and the people. I like my major as well. I could do one of two tracks of my nutritional science major - physiology and metabolism (directed towards pre-meds) or dietetics. At Cornell, I would have the Human Biology, Health, and Society major. I thought the HBHS major was more about societal effects on human health, but I have also heard that it is the pre-med major at Cornell. I'm thinking of becoming a pediatrician, but I don't know if I want to be locked into a pre-med major. When I went for the transfer day, I also heard that HBHS majors at Cornell have about a 30% better chance of getting into medical schools with a certain GPA. Does anyone have any ideas or advice? Anything would be great at this point.

Thanks!

If you like Berkeley, I don’t see the point in transferring. Is HBHS really the pre-med track? I thought it was Bio in A&S. Maybe it’s both. Either way, you’d be adding unneeded stresses to your life by going to Cornell if you’re content at Berkeley. Both are great schools.

Be careful with this kind of UG > Med school stats, colleges develop these stats with different methodologies, so they can’t be used for comparison. See the PreMed Topics subforum, this questions is asked frequently.

One comment, there is lots of talk on the PreMed Topics forum that Cal has poor counseling for premeds; however, I’m not sure how good it is at Cornell. I recommend that you start a thread on the PreMed topics forum and ask your questions.

There is no premed track, premeds can major in anything.

I’m sorry this is so late, but thank you so much! This helped me out :)
