UC Berkeley vs. UCLA vs. UCSD
I'm really split between three UC's right now, for a molecular bio/ biochem major and pre-med track:

-UC Berkeley

-UCLA (Biochem)

-UCSD, John Muir college (Biochem/ molecular cell biology), regents scholar (priority registration, 2k scholarship, other priveleges)

I know that UCSD's bio program is supposedly ranked very high in the nation (is it just graduate program though?), UC Berkeley is the number one public school, and UCLA is just appealing in its overall well-roundedness. I'm considering minoring in music, but I don't consider this a priority. The scholarship monetary award I recieved from SD is not really a factor, but the perks that come with it might be. I just wanted thoughts, if I'm a med school hopeful what's my best bet?

If you’re aiming for medical school, Geffen medical school accepts around the same amount of UCLA students as UCSD and they’re considered equal. As for Cal, there are less acceptances than the former two. According to someone on their admissions panel, LA and SD are better choices than Cal. Remember, Cal doesn’t have it’s own medical school. Especially for molecular biology, LA and SD are better choices. The main difference between them is atmosphere. I suggest reading each school’s College ******* book to see which school fits you.

I was denied by LA and am going to SD, but LA is ****ing LA and if accepted, I would have gone. I’ve grown up here and there’s not a better city in the world. We have an unbeatable music scene, great weather, beautiful women, air that you’ll grow to love, good sports teams, and a ton of things to do. You will literally never be bored here. La Jolla is boring as hell and Cal just plain sucks.

Spoken like a SoCal wonk who’s never left home and is wedded to the beach scene. If Cal “sucks” why is it the #1 UC in the State? BTW the air is breathable in the Bay area.

@ pjnorth

He’s saying he doesn’t like it; it’s personal preference and can be based on anything, even trivialities.

I, for example, think Harvard sucks just because it has a student as a mascot. What is dat lawlz. Besides, if I had to choose between UCLA/Cal and Harvard, I’d choose the UCs; Harvard is overpriced and, though no one denies its reputation is well-deserved, I still think it “sucks”.

I’m in the same boat as well. Also I hear cal is super competitive and getting a good GPA takes lots of work. All the UCs do but I think cal is the most difficult. Lots of people drop out of pre med because of this.
