UC Berkeley vs UCLA!

Hey guys,

So I got accepted to both UCLA and UCB, and im def not complaining about the situation, but I wanted to know what your inputs were. I know it will prolly be biased on a Berkeley thread, but I just wanted some opinions. I live in the Bay, so yeah.

Thank you!!

If you are planning on majoring in science or math then berkeley all the way.

I am sure that this has been previously discussed.

hmm political science/econ…

I’m wondering the exact same thing, and I’m also majoring in econ/ business/ political science!! I’m not sure which one yet.

Berkeley for econ, business and political science.

Berkeley for engineering!

For life science major - Cal, Davis, or LA? XD

Davis if you are premed and want an easier time

For people who…

-have a major that is strong at Cal
-don’t mind being laid back and hyper competitive (at the same time)
-like the bay area
-are into “prestige”
-like the campus environment
-don’t mind the crazy curves and big classes (not always)
-can afford to pay what it costs

Go to UC Berkeley.

For anyone who got a scholarship or doesn’t fall into the above list: go to UCLA or where you got a scholarship.

One more question - if you get the same finaid from LA and Davis, where would you choose for a life science/pre-health major? :)

LA most def

i’ve got the same problem

a few weeks ago, i got into UCLA Letter of Science Social Science-Undeclared (which was shocking already) since my grades/stats are already below their average.

today, i’m even more shocked from my acceptance into UCB undeclared.

i’m planning to pursue in the business/economics major. I currently live in the bay (actually only 30 mins from berk), but i hate it around here. even though UCB may sound more “prestige” and all, i wish that UCLA is much better.

I don’t want to be hanging around a bunch of “nerds” and ppl that are way above me. I actually want some social life. Which school do you think is better?

aslz0638

Yes, it is true that UCB is full of “nerds”/people who are way above you. And it is also true that UCLA can provide you with what you consider a better social life.

I’m not 100% sure, but it sounds like you’ve already chosen… Go to UCLA.

Going back to this thread–if you’re considering Political Science and Economics, UCB would be the better school to go to. BUT you must be sure to keep in mind about things such as financial aid, location, weather, campus, the amount of “nerds” present, and your version of a “social life.”

Visit both campuses and find out as much information as you possibly can. Afterwards, your gut feeling will point you in the right direction.

I was also in this situation two years ago, but upon visiting both campuses, I found UCLA to provide too “generic” of a college experience. I wanted something unique, and coupled with the fact that Berkeley had one of the top EECS programs, I decided to go Berkeley.

most people at berkeley are not nerds at all. the people in my mcb/econ classes are a lot different than the people i live with/spend most of my time with. don’t surround yourself with only pre-haas people and you won’t have to worry about the nerds thing at all.

(pretty much everyone on my floor goes to parties and gets wasted every weekend if that helps lol)

when you apply to internships and jobs, having “UC Berkeley” on your resume helps a lot.

honestly, I hated Berkeley before I got in…but now, I love it! I mean, you’re never alone. there are always people roaming the streets at 4 in morning…stores open…the berkeley marina…beautiful city lights to gaze at…crazy frat parties (if you’re in to that)…late night till 2…and the list goes on.

berkeley’s really well-rounded. we’ve literally got everything!

i went to visit my friend at UCLA last semester and it seemed like everything was already dead at 12!

the smart decision would be to choose the place that gives you the most opportunity. people like to talk about the city, food, attractions, and all that stuff that doesn’t matter so much after 4 years. you realize that having access to the best job opportunities out there will make you so much happier in the future.

i’m in the same situation as you. can’t decide AGHHHHHHHHH

visit both places and think about which school you can imagine yourself at for the next four years… that’s what made me choose cal (spring admit) over ucla last year. didn’t like LA itself, liked bay area weather more, going home was easier especially in case of emergencies. also, the whole nerd thing seems overly exaggerated imho. obviously there are going to be “nerds” at both schools no matter what, but i found that a majority of the people in my classes (chem, math) are normal and pretty chill. and yes, seeing how i live next to frat row, there are enough parties to keep me up until the wee hours of the night.

but yeah… definitely visit and see which school’s atmosphere you like more/best because that’s probably where you’ll be the happiest.
