UC Blue and Gold Promise

Do they still give grants to families making less than 120,000? Last year, I know someone who got gift aid for tuition but they make over $80,000. Is that only for one year or all 4?

Actually, it is true that you can “get paid” to go to a UC. If you are independent (over 24), make less than 80’000 a year and live with family, they give you extra money for room and board (but if you don’t have to pay rent, well you can just keep the money or use it for food/clothes etc.). Maybe if you are dependent that’s also possible, but I’m not sure.

What we think should or should not be done with taxes depends on our own personal views and should NOT be reflected in the answer here. Personally, if I were a taxpayer, I would rather have my money going to students (even to give them full rides, why should they ever get in debt to go to school?) than for war or prison inmates. However, this is just my opinion and it certainly does depend on my political views (so do yours mom2kids, whether you think so or not).

OMG, Mister K, another moralizing high count poster that thinks he knows everything. My S, a Regent’s Scholar at Cal gets “paid” to go to Cal. He gets full tuition, health insurance, and, as he lives off campus in an apartment, $900 per month rent, and about $300 food money. He even got a 17" MBP after S asked. He gets priority registration and special perks. I’m sorry, but Cal wanted him and FA offered him this package. He had other choices that we made sure Cal FA knew about. OP should seek whatever he can get. He is “entitled” to that, as is my son. Key is to negotiate with FA. It works.

Gai is perfectly correct, keep your political opinions off this board.

OP, suggest you ignore this thread and seek advise elsewhere. I’d like to apologize for them and hope their puerile behavior doesn’t discourage you from seeking the truth and the best package you can possibly get.

PM me if you want to know how it works.

jturley - Read the post again; you missed something that’s rather important.

jturley, I see you have very few posts on CC, so I’ll assume you are not aware that comments like “My God, get a life”, “just, well, slink away” and “another moralizing high count poster that thinks he knows everything” are not considered acceptable on CC. Several of us felt Mom2’s response to the OP was rude and politely pointed this out. You chose to respond by being ruder.

I think you should be aware of this portion of CC’s the terms of service:
