Question about UC Blue And Gold

So basically the requirement is that your family income is under 80k and you're attending a UC full time and your entire tuition will be paid?

If a UC says I'm eligible for the Blue and Gold Program, does that automatically mean my entire tuition is paid?

It guarantees systemwide fees will be covered. It does not guarantee campus fees (minimal compared to systemwide) will be covered.

But yes, if one qualifies for B&G, then systemwide fees will be covered through grants, scholarships, or a combination of the two.

I’m still kind of in shock…so say I were to commute to UCI, and my parents make less than 80k a year. That means my tuition is free and the only fee I would have to pay is for books and other small miscellaneous fees?

As I understand it, yes. The tuition and most fees are covered, and you would be responsible for housing and books, etc.

That is how it is working for us.

Family size counts: family of 2 $72,100 3) 73,800 4) 80,200 5) 85,900 6 or more )92,700

Prouduscdad: You’re thinking of Cal Grant. Blue&Gold does not take family size into consideration. It does require FAFSA and a Cal Grant application (FAFSA and GPA verification submitted by March 2), though.

OP: Again, yes, systemwide fees are guaranteed to be covered through grants, scholarships, or a combination of the two if you qualify. Campus fees are not. These range from UC to UC, but are roughly a couple thousand. Sometimes these are also covered if the student has high need, but there is no guarantee.

If you are lucky enough to be close enough to commute, it’s a sweet deal. Commuting drastically cuts the cost down and is a smart thing to do if possible.

Kender: Thanks for the correction.
I guess this gives the people with smaller famlies a shot at the aid money. CA still has the best opportunity for college going kids. Let’s hope they keep it for our children’s children.

Thank you guys for all your help!
