Hi!
I was wondering if anyone could give me some of a indicator if i could get into any UC , or any colleges in California within my reach. Thanks
sem 1 9th : 2.83,2.83 (uw, w)
sem 2 9th : 3.5 ,3.5 (uw, w)
sem 1 10th : 2.83, 2.83 (uw, w)
sem 2 10th : 3.0, 3.0 (uw, w)
sem 1 11th : 4.0, 4.17 (uw, w)
sem 2 111th : 4.0, 4.17 (uw, w)
accumulative uw: 3.36
accumulative w : 3.41
uc gpa : 3.5 flat
SAT : 1550/1600
APs: Macro :5 Micro : 5 Compsci : 5
- know about 7 programming languages
- helped multiple small time companies
- built a website/app on college-related info
i really credit the lack of my gpa, ecs on just laziness. i ramped it up junior year and during the SAT, otherwise I’d be at a 3 flat. Time management wasn’t really an issue; I just didn’t know who i was and was always trying to fit in to social friend groups and be somebody else… A lot of rough patches you could say during sophomore year causing me to lose focus.
Any help would be appreciated, on my UC odds, and colleges in california that should be in range for me. thanks!!
Your choices for UCs is most likely Merced or Riverside. You have a wide variety of choices at the CSUs. With an index of around 4300, you should be able to get into most CSUs except for the highly impacted majors such as CS at SJSU.
Another choice is to go to CCC and try again in a year or two for a better UC. You could possibly try again in a year as a transfer student if you start taking enough APs and CCC classes as a senior in HS. Given your SAT score you should be able to handle say a couple of CC courses per semester and a couple of AP classes. If you can get to 30 semester/45 quarter units by the time you graduate from HS and you go to a CCC, you should be able to reapply again as a freshman in college.
Some statistical data for the UC’s below. UC’s tend to be very GPA focused so as @ProfessorPlum168 stated your options will be limited but an upward trend will help along with your competitive SAT score and EC’s. You would be competitive for the majority of the Cal states with the exception of SJSU, Cal Poly SLO and possibly SDSU which could be out of reach. I suggest you apply widely, write some compelling essays and hope for the best. The CC to CSU or UC route is an excellent option so another avenue to explore. UC TAG will guarantee you admission into one of the 4 UC’s for CS if you meet the requirements: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/transfer/guarantee/index.html
