I’ve been seriously considering transferring to a community college after my freshman year at this UC. It’s not a terrible college or anything like that, but I really feel that it isn’t the right fit for me. My family is also financially unstable at the moment and I’d like to help out while living at home. I have ADHD and find it extremely difficult to do homework or study around anyone, even in a library, so being able to study at home would benefit me a lot.
Is this a solid plan? Should I go through with it?
Whatever helps you to maintain your sense of self, without impacting or sacrificing your education/grades, would be beneficial to your future.
Trust your gut instinct. My son went away to school for his freshman year, and it just wasn’t the right fit. He finished the year, then spent his sophomore year living at home, going to our local CC. Not only did it save money, it gave him that extra year to grow up, figure things out, and make a new plan. He’s now a senior at the #6 best film school in the US, and couldn’t be happier! From what you’ve written, sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders…I say listen to your gut. Good luck!!!
@CSUdream Was the transfer process difficult for your son? I’m mainly worried about being able to transfer from CC. Also, thank you for your advice. I really appreciate it.
@Cheetopuff The transfer process was a little hard for my son, because he was applying to Chapman, Dodge film school, and they only take 3-5% for their transfer students in the film major. My advice would be to make an appointment with an advisor at your local CC, and have a talk about your plans. He/she can map out what your year should look like, so that you’d be on the right path, taking the right classes to ensure you are ready to transfer when the year is up. IF you happen to know where you want to transfer to, you can also touch base with their admissions advisors to help you have a clear plan. I hate to see kids take classes blindly, with no path…so take advantage of advisors and get things in writing. Cheers!
