UC Davis Acceptance

@cactusbass - yeah, I was aware of that. I’m just being silly.

amsstory: $3,500 in self-help expectation, or in student contribution? The latter comes straight from your EFC, while the former is possibly tied to your family income. I couldn’t find specific information on how the self-help expectation is calculated at UCD.

I got the same thing. I think it thats about the best aid anyone can hope to get honestly. If you don’t wanna work, you can take out a private loan. What about getting a summer job? I’ve made 4k a summer for the last few years life guarding, and I didn’t work at all during the year. It’s also quite possible to to actually spend less money, remember that’s an estimate.

@sadfish

I got that too, but then I looked through my emails and found a student ID number that Davis had sent me that I never noticed. Once I put that in, I was good.

Most low-income, in-state transfer applicants whose need is fully met in their aid package should be looking at about the same thing: $5,500 in subsidized Stafford, roughly $5,500 combined from Pell Grant and their Student Contribution, and the rest of their need met via an institutional grant or scholarship. If you qualify for Pell but you have some Student Contribution (EFC not 0), lowering your EFC would only increase your Pell, and the UC scholarship wouldn’t change significantly. The awarding process is fairly automated at this stage.

However, [this page](Undergraduate Scholarships) says, “we will begin awarding campus-based scholarships in June and throughout the summer.” So it is possible that more scholarships are on their way.

@bakemaster $3500 in student contribution.

How do I report changes on My Admissions? I don’t see any place where I can change my planned coursework.

@Lynx08 I had the same problem. I called and Davis told me to update it on the central UC update. If that has closed, I suspect you will have to fax or email them, but I would call to check.

Just FYI, I called about missing the financial aid email. The representative told me not to worry, as “admissions is separate from financial aid, and some students’ packages are not ready yet” (I didn’t tell him that I could see MyAwards).

In addition, he said that decisions would be released “late this week”. I asked specifically about the 4/20 rumor, and he said that was false.

Thanks a lot, I wasn’t sure if I was the only one having the problem. I will email them.

Im a current UCD student, i got admitted last year through Tag. for those who are asking, fafsa and admission are two diff departments and are not related to each other. satisfied only means that they have recieved ur documents or they have reviewd them. wish the best of luck for all of you guys and the wait def worth it! =)

to the dude that asked :)

They offered me a $12k grant in addition to the pell grant, so there is $17700-ish in total, but UCI offered me $13k + pell + 1400 work study + a 2000 interest free loan.

@ wwlink “to the dude that asked” lol :slight_smile:

so ucd didn’t offer you any subsidized loans?

@amsstory: That would be the same at any UC campus. On your student aid report (SAR) you should be able to see where it breaks down your total EFC into the student and parent contributions; the number shown on your SAR should be the same as the number shown in your aid package.

It’s probably obvious by now, but I called and asked admissions about when they would start releasing decisions (actually I called about something else and stuck the question in there) and she said it would probably be sometime around the end of the week and that I should probably start looking on Thursday. Just thought I should pass on the information.

@bakemaster…hmm sorry, I meant “student self-help”:

Contributions
Student Self Help Expectation…$3,025.00
Student Contribution …$475.00
Parent Contribution …$0.00
Additional Resources…$0.00
Total Contributions …$3,500.00

@walleats- thanks for sharing =) … i just want them to hurry up and post decisions already!

@amsstory: Ah, okay. “Self help” refers to the portion of a student’s education for which the school expects the student to be responsible. This responsibility is fulfilled by working, taking out loans, paying from savings, etc. At some schools, aid from the FAFSA can satisfy the self-help requirement (Stanford, for instance). But given that UCD has put Pell and Stafford in another section entirely, looks like they want you to pay that portion by working, by taking a loan, or with savings/other assets.

My guess is that people with 0 EFC and nothing in the “Additional Resources” area will have a $3,500 self help expectation. I have an EFC over $3,500 and no self help expectation. If you got a $500 merit scholarship from a local club and reported it to UCD, my guess is it would show up as $500 of “additional resources” and your self help expectation would be reduced by the same amount. It’s not a concrete cost, just a factor that limits how much need-based aid you can receive from the school.

So…the 20th is the big day? If that’s the case, I’ll definitely stay up all night waiting.

No, the Davis representative I spoke to said “the end of this week”, the 21st or 22nd. He squashed the rumor: it’s definitely not the 20th.

Well that sucks.

This month needs to end. I have TAG at Davis but I really really want to make it official.
