uc davis appeal, feedback needed please!

okay so i’m almost done with my uc davis appeal and i’m so nervous because i want to go to davis more than i’ve ever wanted anything in my life. i was wondering if anyone would be willing to read my appeal letter & give me some feedback. just tell me your e-mail address and i’ll send it to you.

also, does anyone know of people who have gotten into davis through appeals, and if so, what were their stats or why did they get in? my friend told me that she knows people who got in to ucd through appeals that had low sats and no real hardships, but i’ve also heard that getting accepted through appeal is incredibly hard, so i don’t know. i’m trying to figure out my chances here.

thanks

what are your stats? and major?

I am also interested in attending Davis. but havent received anything yet

my stats are: 3.7gpa, 1240sat1s, sat2s all in 550/610area
ECs: jv & varsity cheerleading, dancing in a dance company, 8 years of piano lessons, part time job for a year, community service
major- undecided

in my appeal letter i talked about how i moved from a small town to a big city my senior year + the difficulties/challenges from that etc, and i've done a lot of volunteer work recently so i talked about that too. and why i love ucd

spicybrunette568@yahoo.com ill read your paper n reply

are you really that spicy?

i am so spicy, if you eat me ill give you heartburn

sockherplayer- i e-mailed you my appeal

i just emailed you back

If you'd like, I'll take a look at it: tlaktan@gmail.com

That is, if you'd like.

Be careful talking about your senior year..

I have read this on a UC site. Everyone else was evaluated on their 10/11th grade life. It would not be "fair" to consider an appeal based on your 12th grade (eg. marked grade improvements). in an appeal, uc wants to you stress the information that were NOT in the original app, or were highlighted enough.

the prompt asks for "new and compelling information" so i know its unfair because regular admits didnt have the chance to do that, but i know a guy who appealed to UCSB by only talkin about his senior year ( how he became an eagle scout, took a chem college class...) so i dont know it oculd work. he also sent in his letter past the due date lol. lucky kid.

this is my email address, ill read as soon as i get it and send you feedback to the email address it came from... okie

^sockherplayer did he get in ucsb with the appeal??

Well, I am currently sitting here in my dorm at UCD....chilling and enjoying things..and I personally have a number of friends that have gotten in on appeal. Shoot me an email cperry@ucdavis.edu...i'll show it around to my friends. From reading your posts if your passion is cheerleading and dance...The UC Davis Dance Team were National Champions last year...you could incorporate something to the extent of how you really want to go to Davis to join the dance team. They want to see students that want to go to the school for a unique reason. I also know the captain of the dance team, she could help, but dance would reaaally have to be important to you...they are reallly good.

yeah he got in even though he sent his letter late.

Hey sockerplayer...tell us more about your friend who got in on an appeal to UCSB- what were his stats? How long ago? What kind of recommendation ltrs did he send along? We need the encouragement...although I heard only 6% get in on appeal.

thanks guys so much, i'll email it to everyone right now

im not entirely sure what his exact stats were, but hes jewish and grew up in walnut creek, he had about a 3.6 w gpa, took a few hard classes, got two letters of rec from two teachers that know him really well, and he wrote about stuff that happened during his senior year. he wrote the letter of appeal in 2001, in fact he just graduated last year as a sociology major.
im pretty sure he was just an average student with average sat scores, but since it was in 2001 i think it was a little easier to get into ucsb. all i can say is to get two good letters of rec and write a super essay, and hopefully ull be part of that 6.8%
