im currently a 2nd year at community college majoring in civil engineering. i know i want to transfer to a uc, i just really don’t know which one. i live in sacramento and i dont want to transfer far out. there are only 2 uc’s that offer civil engineering in norcal, berkeley and davis. i know berkeley wins hands down, but personally i dont want to go to berkeley, im just not “feeling” that school. so now im left with the decision of going to davis or going down to socal (irvine, san diego, la). anyone know if the engineering program in davis is any good? ive heard mixed reviews about davis’ engineering. thanks.

Any particular reason you don't want to attend the #1 Civil Engineering program at Berkeley? The next best program would be UCSD at #19, but UCD is pretty close because both are ranked in the top 20 in the graduate rankings.

thanks for the rankings. dont get me wrong, im still going to apply to berkeley and see if i get accepted. to be honest with you, i really dont know why i dont want to go to berkeley...weird huh? i dont know. maybe because im afraid i just wont survive as an engineering major, especially at a highly ranked school. i dont know, i'd have to think about it more.

Count UCSD out for civil engineering, they dont have a civil engineering program. Although they do have what other UC's dont have, Structural Engineering.

UC Davis civil engineering is top notch. It is one of the best civil programs. Ask any civil engineer. My neighbor is a CE and her son and his friend are both in the program at UCD.

I'm a ChemE from UCSB. I worked at an environmental firm with a supervisor and another manager guy who both graduated from UCD with a M.S. in Civil Engineering. They seemed pretty sharp and level-minded. I think they are both PEs (registered professional engineers in CA). I'm pretty sure if Cal doesn't take you and you head off to Davis, you'll do fine.
