I think you’ve got a strong profile for Davis! Hope all goes well  @jindaltanya

@mash97 thankyou  I hope you get in too.

Just a random question, but on the UCD myadmissions webstite, did anyone update their first semester grades(not to report about a d or f, but to just update your grades)?

I did not. The only thing I told them was my switch from AP to CP Calculus. Also, can anyone chance me? At time of application:

GPA: 4.375
UC GPA: 4.14
SAT: 1610
AP Classes (including senior year):6
IB Classes(including senior year): 3
AP Scores: US (4) Geography (3) Biology (3)
Decent EC’s
Community Service (60 hours)
Essays: Talked about how making the varsity cross country team helped me get over body image issues/developing an eating disorder. The other was about seeing family struggling because they did not go to college/have goals after high school and my passion for Biotech.
Hooks: First Gen and gay ( Is this even a hook?/ why do they ask us our sexual orientation?)
Major: Biotechnology

*IMO acceptance or rejection is going to lie in wheteher or not my GPA and Essays make up for my SAT score. Is this a correct assumption?

What major ?

@goldenmoon98 Even if you did, they still would not take the 1st semester senior grades into consideration unless they have requested them.

Welp guys, it’s now less than a week before we find out whether or not we get into UC Davis. UC Davis is not my top choice so I do not care what the admissions decision will be for me. I only applied to UC Davis because I know a lot of friends that applied there and I am in like two groups where if we all went there we would live together. The cons of it is what driving me away from this school, but it’s still okay.

^ If you do get accepted, please only consider going because you really like the school and not because you feel obligated to do so. I’m currently attending and chose it over LA and UCB because I liked the school the most after visiting all three schools. I have no regrets whatsoever. Should go on a tour if you haven’t already to decide if its the right school for you.

@Dawg619 SAT is definitely on the lower end, but if you applied to a non-impacted major(not sure if biotech is impacted or not), I think you’d still have a decent chance.

What are the cons ?

The day is getting so close! Ahh Davis is my dream school! Chance me?

GPA: 4.31
UC GPA: 4.23
ACT: 32
SAT: 2010
SAT II’s: Bio E: 620 Math II: 670 (low, I don’t want these to harm me!)
Good EC’s with leadership - varsity swim captain, 1st chair bassoon, Key Club officer and marching band drum major

Good luck to everyone!!

^ Oh and I’m a NPB major (college of Biological Sciences) so I’m worried about it being impacted.

@Eager4acceptance These top 3 cons are the first ones I have thought of, but it’s completely biased…a pros and cons list is really individual based, but maybe it’ll apply to you.

Cons

  • NCAA Division I FCS Athletics: I am hoping to attend a NCAA Division I FBS public school for my undergraduate studies. For my career, everyone in the field told me to just go where you will be most happy at and then go to the best school for Statistics in graduate school. Sports play a huge role in my life, and UC Davis doesn't really prioritize in that...still better than most CSUs and UCs though.
  • Location: It's in the middle of nowhere and the nearest urban city is Sacramento. Thus, it's not convenient for my major UNLESS if I do Statistics in like the Biological Sciences or something similar, but I'm sadly undecided on which field I will apply stats to.
  • Weather/Air Quality: This isn't a con for me, but it is for my family. When my sister visited she couldn't take it anymore. It's not bad, but it's worse than the coastal California...Central Valley is very frowned upon sadly.

I heard that they have good spirit when it comes to sports but i don’t like the location either . And the weather is not bad, it can just get really hot . Thanks though .

I absolutely love the town of Davis but I’m definitely worried that there isn’t enough in the area/in Sacramento for me to be to content with the area for four years. I do know someone who’s currently a sophomore at Davis and almost transferred because she was so bored with the area. Most people I know who go there love it, though.

@gonewiththeair I feel the same way and am honestly a little bit worried. Like, Davis is such a cute area and I love their food markets! Everything is so green, fresh, and it just gives the air of a real tight-knit community. There’s also a lot of vegan things! But, I am just kind of worried that I won’t be able to do things that many do in colleges in major cities. Like, you won’t be able to rave; concerts will always be far away; etc. I kind of am undecided on how much I like it (their academic are obviously amazing, regardless of the social aspects).

@jackisawesome yes I definitely feel the same way! It’s absolutely beautiful and the farmers market is awesome.

The closest concerts will probably be in Sacramento though but I know some people have traveled as far as San Francisco to get to concerts. I think I would find things to do for at least the first year but after that I’m worried that I would find it very boring.

@elefish92 Ahaha, don’t worry too much about the air quality in Davis. I live in Sacramento, and the air quality in the Sacramento-Yolo-Placer area is actually very good. It’s the San Joaquin Valley to the south that gives the rest of the Central Valley a bad wrap.

As for things to do in the Sacramento-Davis area: Sacramento and Davis both have a lot going on for places of their size. I mean, they’re not LA or San Francisco, but they’re great towns, and by far the nicest in the entire Central Valley. There’s a lot of great food in Davis and even better food in Sacramento. Sacramento also has a thriving theatre scene, so if you’re into that, then that’ll be great for you. And I mean, I’m not a huge partier, but there’s definitely a pretty good nightlife scene in Sacramento (can’t say much about Davis, but I’m guessing it’s not as good). And Sacramento’s really only about a half an hour away from Davis, so you can definitely get an Uber or a Lyft and go on a day trip “to the City” with your friends.

Most concerts are usually in Wheatland, which I think is about 45 min away, since the acoustics at the main Sacramento arena/ ampitheatre are considered to be some of the worst in the country. Hopefully that’ll change with the opening of the Golden One Arena this Fall. A lot of people are expecting Golden One Arena to bring Sacramento the air of a big city, and with all the developments going on in the downtown area right now, it looks like Sacramento is on its way to being a really great city.

Davis is taking 1100 more undergraduates this year on the bright side! Good luck everyone!
