Reflection

Strengths: Besides my grades, I have strong extracurricular and experiences that I think really helped exemplify my passions and interests. Plus, I’m a naturally good writer which also helped.
Weaknesses: LOL my test scores are so bad. I’m just glad I was able to prove that a single test doesn’t define my intelligence, or anyone else’s for that matter.
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: To be honest, I think the essays were what got me in.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted to Chapman, Cal Lu, and Pepperdine. Waiting on UCLA, UCSD, UCI, UCSB, USC, Tulane, and Stanford.

General Comments: College admissions is a toss-up. It’s a mentally debilitating process, but you’ll get through it. Now, fingers crossed for UCLA!

Essays
I spent lots of time on my essays & I worked on the prompts during the summers so I’d say they all range from 8-10s/10s; I made them very personalized & just tried to reflect myself as a unique applicant

State (if domestic applicant): CA
High school type: Public, small

Gender: F
Race/ethnicity: Asian

Applied for need-based financial aid?: Yes
Pell grant eligible?: No
Maximum Pell grant (FAFSA EFC = $0)?: N/A

Reflection

Strengths: GPA, essays
Weaknesses: Extracurriculars weren’t that unique/wasn’t as involved as others
Why you think you were accepted: I think my GPA helped and I took all but 2 APs at my school, so course rigor definitely helped. My stats were pretty in-line with davis’s avg. Also I just tried to show my personality/passion through my essays and promoted myself as a worthy applicant

General Comments:
College admissions are very unpredictable; if you want to go to a school but don’t think you’ll get admitted: JUST TRY. give your applications your all, especially your essays. i did not think i was going to get admitted to davis, but it happened (: good luck to c/o 24!!

Maximum Pell Grant: No

Highest level of parent education: They both dropped out of community college.
Living with both, one, or no parents?: Both Parents

Reflection:

Strengths: Statewide Path, First Generation, my grades had an upward trend, heavy involvement in my environmental club, essays
Weaknesses: bad grades freshman year, no honors courses until my junior year, only two AP courses, applied to a very competitive major, could have gotten higher standardized tests scores
Why I think I was Waitlisted: I simply was not a strong candidate for the UC Davis College of Engineering.
Acceptances: Cal Poly SLO, Cal Poly Pomona, CSULB, LSU, SDSU, SJSU, University of Arizona, UC Merced, UC Riverside
Rejections: Colorado School of Mines

General Comments: I wasn’t too sure if UC Davis would admit me but I decided to go ahead and “shoot my shot” to see if I could get in. I will not accept their waitlist offer because I have already been admitted to Cal Poly SLO, a school which is closer to my family and IMHO has a better engineering program.

Congratulations to all who were admitted to UC Davis, it’s a great university!!! <:-P
