UC Davis Econ Major Transfer

Hi I am currently attending community college in California. I am almost done with my first year and I will have a 3.3 GPA going into the summer. I plan to apply to UC Davis as an Econ major without a TAG because it seems that Davis has a TAG only for managerial economics. Do I need to have taken all the major requirement classes before I apply for them to consider accepting me? I also need to knock off some prereqs to take the certain math classes required so will Davis let me take classes during next summer if I do get accepted?

@shonuf112: I was recently admitted to Davis as an Econ major with a 3.4 when I applied. I did a TAG though and its not only for managerial econ since I can TAG for economics. I didn’t finish my math reqs and will only be finishing calc 1 prior to transfer, I updated Davis with my situation and I’m still admitted. I’m not sure about summer though because I’m not going to take any summer courses this year. I really recommend TAGing though if its not pass deadline! Goodluck with applications! :)

Thank you for the response! Did you happen to have your Econ classes done? I have not taken them yet and am quite worried that it could affect my standing.

You submit your TAG application in September of 2012 for fall 2013 enrollment so many people do not have their required classes done yet. I submitted a TAG for Davis last Sept. and am going this fall. I still had a required math and science class to finish though I was not an econ major. You list all classes In Progress that fall and list all class Planned for spring. On the Sept. application they will see what you are currently taking and what you plan to take. Provided you complete all those classes successfully and all other requirements and your GPA are good you would be accepted.

As far as summer classes, I believe each UC is different but most DO NOT let you wait until the summer before you transfer to take important required classes. Try to take everything you can this coming fall and spring. Or sometimes it makes since to stay at cc one more year, get all required classes done, and have a top GPA. Then you look great for transferring. I went to 4 different cc’s and took many years before I was ready to transfer. Going with the TAg with UC Davis was great since they approved it in Nov. before I had to submit my regular UC application. You can go to UC Davis website and search for TAG requirements. It will spell out to you if you are allowed to finish requirements during the summer before transfer.
