Hello,

It is almost time to apply to a UC and I'm feeling a little worried about some things.

I am currently working on transfer studies and an AA. My current GPA is 3.18. This next term will be my last one at CC. I will take 5 courses this fall and hopefully raise my GPA above 3.2. After I'm done, I will have 70 transferable units. Is that an okay amount?

I am planning to TAG for UCSD or UCD. I am an economics major so which one would suit my major better? I am also planning to apply to UCB and UCLA. Is there any chance that I would be accepted into either of those?

I was looking at this site. It said that the min GPA for TAG to UCSD is 3.5. Does that mean that I can't TAG for that school? I haven't told my counselor about this yet, but a couple of months ago she had told me that I would be able to TAG to UCSD.

Is it worth it to track down my professor in regards to changing my grade? I've tried contacting him through email but he has not replied to any of my emails. I believe that he gave me the wrong grade. Before the final, I had a 95% in the class. I confidently took the final and I do not think that it could have caused my overall grade to become a B. How can I contact my professor to at least find out how my grade became a B? If I get an A in that class, I should be able to get above a 3.3 GPA after I'm done with everything.

Okay, that's all I can think of to ask for now.

Econ at UCB and UCLA are so heavily impacted, that even applicants with 3.8s and all of the pre-reqs completed are regularly rejected. You can check the acceptance/rejection threads from last year for that major to give you a better idea of your chances at those schools.

However, this shouldn’t dissuade you from applying. I have no idea what you life experiences are like, so who knows. Maybe you have killer ECs and a storied past.

As for UCSD, TAG will most certainly require a 3.5 and completion of IGETC. There is no way around this. You can apply as a non-TAG applicant.

You should be able to TAG for UCD, granted that you meet their GPA/Major requirements (if there are any - I’m not sure about Econ there). Some schools require that you pass Calculus I and II with a 3.0 GPA for Econ. You might want to check out the UCD requirements for yourself.

As for challenging your course grade with the professor: it’s worth a shot if it’s not too much trouble and you can do it. A GPA boost doesn’t hurt, but even a 3.3 or a 3.4 won’t allow you to TAG for UCSD (if that’s your goal with that endeavor).

Thanks for your reply. Where can I find the acceptance/rejection threads?

I already did IGETC and the major requirements for all of the UCs. So I will TAG to UCD. Do you think that I would have a chance if I applied to UCSD?

im in a similar situation as you, i will have a 3.24 gpa by the end of fall, and want to know my chances for econ for ucsd lol
