Uc davis fall 2016 transfer thread

@napapapa @enigmamachine For cs, is it necessary to get all prereqs? I’ll be missing 1-2 prereq on assist (CS 50/70), is it still possible to get admitted?

@cyan96 If you TAG they will accept you while still missing prereqs. I will be missing CS 50/70 as well.

@napapapa and what if I don’t have a TAG?

I always here of people saying prereqs are extremely important so I guess we’d have to see how things turn out for you… what are your stats? @cyan96

@napapapa 3.86 gpa, without CS 50/E&C70, will probably drop physics as well. All other prereqs will be completed.

@Countchocula25 Hmmm I’m not sure, I don’t have much experience with UCs. From what I have been told, it won’t particularly go towards the decision if I am accepted and it does not count for pre reqs or amount of credits required, but sometimes if they see you plan to finish and they are on the edge about you it helps. I’ve been told different things by different schools and counselors so not sure.

@cyan96 Your GPA is pretty strong man, I hope everything works out for you.

@napapapa nice pic. You a psych/ cog sci major?

(out of state transfer)
Major: Animal Science
TAG?: I have no idea what this is
Golden 4: A statistics, B public speaking, C+ critical thinking, Chem & Bio in progress but expect A in both.
GPA: 3.3 (but will be over 3.5 with completed Spring Semester)
EC: animal shelter volunteer at 3 shelters; NAVTA approved Vet Assistant Certification
Work: Kennel Attendent at local animal hospital, full time. (over 1yr experience)
Applying to: Cal Poly Pomona (rejected), Cal Poly SLO (rejected), Chico Univ. (pending review), UCDavis(pending review)

Do you guys think I have a chance? I am doubtful since I have a low gpa. I thought I’d get into my fall back (Chico) but I heard it’s unlikely since I’m out of state…
I’m hoping Davis will consider my work experience.

I have a question regarding TAG if anyone knows the answer?

I met the TAG requirement for Davis when enrolling with a 3.21 GPA exactly, however after the fall quarter my GPA dropped to a 3.18. I know that they require a 3.2 GPA, but does that mean for each quarter or until you enter Davis. Because after this quarter, my GPA would go back up above a 3.2. Any insight would be appreciated!

Is there still a good chance that I can get in without the TAG agreement?
I have a 3.2 GPA, majoring in Genetics with solid extra circulars (genetic research, president of club, volunteering etc). and essays I think are pretty good (reviewed by multiple counselors, teachers, etc). I am also a first generation college student (Indian American)

Thanks!

Does UC davis consider volunteer work at all? Also I did one “class”, for notetaking for a disabled student, but it isnt UC approved, since it was a community involvement course. Do they consider that not for GPA but maybe for academic involvement?

All extra curricular are considered. Even if it’s note taking.

As far as TAG for UC Davis it says on their criteria “meet or exceed the minimum overall GPA of 3.20 from the time their TAGs are submitted up to the time of enrollment. Students cannot receive grades below a C.”
Email them directly and ask if they mean “maintain” or just have the Gpa by that time. As far as your stats and being a general admit, I’d say you’ve got a 60-65% chance

@uchopeful414 Thank you, haha nah CS over here.

Hello everyone, I have a question for the accepted transfer students from last year or for anyone who can answer my question. I am, like other transfer applicants, waiting for my admission news, but I am quite worried since UC requires transfers to have at least two writing courses. I took one and I am taking one right now this spring 2016. UC website says I need these two courses before transferring to UC. Do you think I am at a huge disadvantage that can lead to a rejection because I don’t have two courses of writing?
Thank you so much for your time. I really appreciate it.

For anyone concerned about maintaining the 3.2 GPA requirement for TAG, this is the response I got from Melanie David, who’s part of the Transfer Opportunity Program.

Me:
I had a question regarding the 3.2 GPA provision. Does the 3.2 GPA need to be maintained every quarter, as in it can not dip below 3.2 to be in compliance with the contract, or can it dip below 3.2 as long as it is a 3.2 or above by the end of spring quarter (2016).

The TAG website mentions students must "meet or exceed the minimum overall GPA of 3.20 from the time their TAGs are submitted up to the time of enrollment. Students cannot receive grades below a C.

Her Response:
Thank you for you email. We would like students to maintain a 3.2 GPA or above each term, however, if it drops one term, and overall GPA is above a 3.2 at the end of spring 2016, it usually isn’t an issue as long as there are no D/F grades. Hope this helps.

@hughng92 I think that since you’re finishing one this semester that it will be fine. I believe the requirements are to finish the two courses by spring 2016. So I think you are fine

I feel like we’re at a point in the waiting game where I am starting to hallucinate and have crazy irrational fears over my TAG. Can someone just confirm with me that the TAG contract that we have to uphold is:

  • Maintain a 3.2 (or 3.3 depending on major) GPA until the end of Spring
  • No grades lower than a C (or C- depending on your school’s grading system)
  • Complete 60 semester units by the end of Spring
  • All English and Math requirements (I already finished those)

Correct?

Also, another crazy question: I didn’t check off the box on the UC Application that I received a TAG acceptance to Davis before submitting the application, but I explained in the TAU that I received an accepted TAG through Davis but just forgot to check off the box in the app (basically let them know that I received a TAG, just was dumb and forgot to check the box off on the application). Do you think they would reject my TAG because of this? I highly doubt it because I explained in the TAU, but like I said, i’m getting stir crazy while waiting. I mentioned it to my TAG counselor and she said i’m fine, but she is kind of robotic when it comes to communication.

Counting down the friggin days.

@ megantwin Dear Megan, thank you for your response. I appreciate it.
