Uc davis fall 2016 transfer thread

@bolognese Is it a major prerequisite? Davis unfortunately… the more competitive they are getting, the more strict they are…
:confused:

@yoyo1995

Nope, nothing major. Just three classes. Two philosophy classes which were just filler classes and a history course that I replaced with 2 other history courses and a spanish course. I’m a history major and we don’t have prereqs, just major prep and I did most of it.

The guy over the phone wasn’t listening to me and just repeated the same canned answer so I’m not taking the “subject to cancellation” bs too seriously.

@bolognese I see… Well I think it’s better to SIR to another University, Just in case they do something to your admission. When I corrected a mistake (A TAU error) on the courses list, Admission replied to me in like a week and half. and did not revoke me. I was soo afraid, I thought I was Done for life loll! But then it was nice to see them understanding…Although they should be doing the same with your case!

@bolognese I think you’re fine. I had some updates, and it took them like a week and a half to get back, and it did not affect my admission.

Has anyone done their housing app? I’m at the roomsync part just haven’t gone through the whole process.

@plebsunite Did you pay the $500 fee? After you pay the fee, it completes your application and tells you to come back in mid to late August to pick out your room and which apartment building you want to live in. From now until August you should can either work on finding a roommate through RoomSync or you’ll be randomly assigned a roommate in August.

Omg I know! That 500 dollar fee is crazy

I was trying to finish the housing app but I can’t afford the fee right now, I wanted a single occupany apartment too.

@boxandwhiskers Ohhh ok yeah i did pay the fee after selling my soul to get the money. Thanks for your help I guess I should start working on trying to find a roomate 3:-O

Yeah gonna have to wait a little for that fee lol.

I used my whole paycheck for the fee b-( blegh

I already found a roommate through Roomsync but are we supposed to just find one? or try to find more?

I’m not sure if they’re going to randomly assign us to a suite with a random number of rooms or what

The good thing is that the $500 fee goes towards your first quarter payment. So first quarter your rent is $500 off :))

I am also a sophomore transfer who got accepted… but when were we suppose to send in our AP scores and ACT/sat?? @miniKappa

What happens if I press the I agree button on the conditions of admission page??

@tbpark103

It’ll take you to a page where you choose how you want to pay your SIR fee. It won’t do anything tbh not until you pay

they want your $$$

How are they about changing majors after transferring?? I am a Textiles and Clothing major but I want to change to managerial economics… Ive been taking all business and econ classes in my CC so…

@tbpark103

I heard they’re generally very lax in terms of switch majors as long as it isn’t impacted(and even then you can switch as long as you have the prereqs I think). You have to wait one quarter to officially switch but you can technically sign up for those courses your first(fall) quarter then get the ball rolling during winter quarter. You can do it online then get the signatures. As long as you can graduate on time, you won’t face any problems really.

You can talk to someone about it during orientation. I also want to change my major so I’ve been researching the process a lot.

@futureuctransfer There’s a part in the application that asks you which kind of living arrangement style you want (single or double occupancy - either your own room or sharing a room with someone else). I don’t recall seeing an option for living alone (studio), you might have to call and ask. I know that living by yourself is totally possible, but also be aware that not all the SHA buildings offer studio apartments. Check out the SHA page and look at each individual apartment complex to find out.

Side note/general things i’ve learned about this process:
Also, the building you want to live in may not be available to you. The school gives you your options, and you pick what you like best. For instance, I really want Colleges at La Rue, but they are the most popular. Depending on how many residents who already live there choose to renew their lease or other factors, it may get filled up. Pick a few that you would like to live in. I heard there is a lottery style system with getting an apartment at La Rue, but I don’t know if it’s still being implimented this year. Decision Day is having a SHA housing tour, if you are going take advantage of this as this is probably the only time you’ll get to see what the apartments look like.

Another thing I discovered about the apartment buildings, a lot of them have cockroach problems (apparently the City of Davis has a crazy cockroach problem) and be prepared for loud parties.

what are the fees for housing? the ones at uci are crazy. 2 bedroom 2 bath transfer housing is $990 per person for two people.

For fall, they will be slightly more expensive, probably by 2% or so. For a single occupancy (your own bedroom but with other roommates) it’s $10,900 for Fall, Winter, Spring without a meal plan. You can sublet your room in the Summer, there’s a facebook group for that. Double occupancy is less, about $9400 for the year.
