Omg roaches! I can’t do that
Thanks @boxandwhiskers your post was super helpful. I guess I better pay the 500 soon so I can try to get a single occupancy!
@boxandwhiskers Roaches in the apartments that horrible to me!!! What about if you are pretty clean and don’t leave mess?? are you talking about all seasons or just in summer??? what about Primero Grove???
@yoyo1995 I’ve read reports they can be problems in La Rue, Adobe, and Arlington Farm according to Yelp. But Yelp is not super reliable to go by. We don’t know if their neighbors were filthy slobs and they are the reason that roaches come, but apparently Davis, as a whole, has native cockroaches. It is a rural area and attracts all kinds of insects. Adobe and Arlington Farm are near giant fields so they’re going to attract a lot of wildlife. I’m also guessing this is during the summer months when it’s insanely hot. There’s not a lot of context being revealed, i’m just reiterating what i’ve read through sites like Yelp and the Davis Wiki. I’ve also messaged students on facebook and asked if they have roach problems, and all of them said no. I personally think it has more to do with who your neighbors are and whether or not you are a clean person who cleans their kitchens and bathrooms. If you live in a dirty household you have a greater chance of attracting roaches.
Apparently if you go outside at night you’ll see them around the buildings. And there are certain areas of Davis at night where you can see swarms of praying mantis reproducing, feeding, and killing each other. Pretty insane stuff.
Okay great. I thought It was a major problem! I usually see roaches lot around my area, but small ones. Big brown ones are my phobias. I can’t stand them. But im sure I’ll be okay, since I am a very neat and clean person. I am chemical lord lol all over my kitchen and bathrooms, not giving them a chance to approach lol
@yoyo1995 Yeah, I absolutely hate roaches, and when I read that I got really bummed out. But people complaining about roaches in their apartment are not going to talk about their living habits, or that its been really hot lately and that’s why they’ve come out, so there’s a lot of other factors at play for why there were roaches in these peoples apartment. You could go there and not find any, or you could and there’s could be a bunch. It’s kind of a gamble. If you do find them in your apartment, notify management and they will spray for you. I really had no idea cockroaches were a thing in California AT ALL. I’ve lived in New York where roaches are a part of life, and have never come across roaches here in San Francisco. Kind of makes sense they’re in Davis because it is super rural up there lol.
I think it’s really easy for college students living with each other to attract bugs because not everyone lives cleanly. Just be super clean and read up on extra measures you can take to ensure you don’t get roaches (sealing up cracks, not putting garbage cans near doorways, not leaving food out and not having lots of stuff on your counter where they can hide in).
any one still waiting for admissions to contact you about your coursework update?
I sent them an email and they send me an automated response saying that I should call them but last time I called them I didn’t get anything answered
I’m really really frustrated considering I’ve SIR’d and found a roommate
For me, it took them about a week and a half. When they got back to me, they simply emailed me and said that the changes did not affect my admission.
It’ll be 3 weeks on friday if I don’t hear back soon, just wondering who else is still waiting
@bolognese Call them again and ask to speak to your admin officer. Don’t go far with the front desk phone people. They don’t know anything about your case. I also got an email back from them. But I first spoke with an admin officer about it (Front desk transferred the call to) Yes, she told me that she cannot tell me if my admission is affected over the phone. She simply said, they need to review it, and that they will E-mail me back. (Already did and I am still admitted. If your at 3 weeks, then you need to call them and seriously see whats the matter. Yupp… I feel how frustrating it is… and I hope they give you good news! No worries!
Holy crap that worked!!
I called and spoke to an admissions officer who looked up my ID number and said I’m totally fine
Dude thank you so much for that tip!!! :x
@bolognese Welcome! Yeah dude you gotta get to the right people to get the right answer.
@bolognese were the classes that you removed transferable or non-transferable? I have yet to hear back and I can’t get ahold of an admissions officer. Mine are non-transferable and I just wanna know if I need to keep calling lol
They were listed as non-transferrable but assist says they are so who knows. The important part is that I’m still gonna transfer with the minimum 90 units and the major prep, so it didn’t change anything.
Are you calling the admissions office number? Did you ask for an admissions advisor? I called and asked for an admissions officer/advisor. The girl that picked up happened to be one and looked up my stuff right away and assured me I was fine. She was able to see my changes and the comments I added. Last few times I called it was some dude that was really unhelpful, didn’t offer to look up my student ID or anything so I have no idea how things work around there.
I’m pretty sure you’re fine but you might feel better if you hear it from one of them.
I asked to speak to an admission advisor but the person wouldn’t put me through. And yeah I still have the minimum 90 units and the courses were not for my major or transferable so I don’t think there will be a problem but it’s just aggravating having to wait. Thanks though!! @bolognese
@bolognese
I still haven’t gotten an email but now I’m allowed to make changes to my coursework again and the courses that were IP before I made the initial change are now correct in saying DR so I’m assuming they finally processed it and I’ll get an email soon!
UPDATE: literally 10 min later and I got an email saying I’m good and that my changes didn’t affect my admission status ahh so happy
Me too! I got an e-mail around 8am. So glad we got our stuff sorted out, maybe our incessant calling got them to catch up with their work lol
See you this fall!
Hey! anyone planned how many courses to take per quarter? I am going to start with 3 first quarter (to adjust from my current semester system) and then take 4 for the rest of each quarter. I wana switch to bio psych major though, Advisor told me I can take upper division along with science pre med classes. so my quarter would look like this, 2 psych upper div. and 2 science pre med courses. How does that sound??
Also regarding calculus, Is anybody going into calculus first quarter in the fall? and which series are you considering? which is easier btw
@yoyo1995 probably 3 or 4 depending on the units/how heavy the course load is. My CC is also on quarter system so hopefully it will be an easier transition. I’ve been taking around 21 units per quarter at my CC (around 14 semester units I believe?) Quarter systems move insanely fast so if you’re good at staying on top of it 4 is doable!
How/where did you talk to an advisor about classes and switching majors?
I’m considering switching majors from History and I’ll have to take the Calc series as well. I read that the Calc is harder at UCs bc they like to try to weed people out but who knows if that’s true. I was thinking maybe I could take it at the community college in the area idk
