I am really conflicted on which school to commit to. My major for UC Davis and UCSD are biology and I have plans on minoring in international relations and going either premed or prelaw (yes they’re completely different). I live only 45 mins from Davis which is why I’m not sure if I should go there. Which option is the best in the long term?
These are both excellent UCs (especially for STEM majors) so congratulations!!
For deciding between the two schools, you have to ask yourself how far away you want to be. Some people would love to only be 45 minutes away from home and some want to be hours away. It depends on how comfortable you are with distance.
Also, take a look at both schools academic programs for your major. Obvs since they’re both UC, there may be similarities. However, a second look may show that you are excited more about the program at X, not Y.
Did you visit UCSD yet?
yes I have and I loved the campus
I think UCSD will give you more opportunities to pursue biological research and build up a strong resume as a premed candidate, and it also has a better known IR program. However, Davis has a law school and the associated connections, which gives you more flexibility. But strictly for premed, I think San Diego is the stronger school.
