UC Davis Med School, Attainable???

I am a Senior and I have always been an AP/Honors student with A’s and B’s, with a very rare C, since kindergarten. My dream is to go to UC Davis Medical School, but I’m afraid I won’t make it. I don’t want to get an undergraduate degree in biology or physics and not get in to medical school. Would it be a good idea to do a nursing undergraduate degree and apply to medical school so that I have a backup plan? Ofcourse I would still do all the premed requirements, but would it look bad to med schools or not?
Also, I am not a straight A student, but I know I can crack down when I get to college. I want to go to USF to get my BSN in nursing and then apply to UC Davis med school to become a pediatrician. Is it a good plan or is it unattainable??? Please help, I am very nervous and I want some confidence that it is a good plan, because I will be mainly relying on financial aid and I will not be able to afford an inapplicable degree in Biology or Physics.

There is no way to predict if you will get into medical school until you have completed your undergrad education and have taken the MCAT. Having a nursing degree as a backup is an excellent idea and you may find that nursing can be just a fulfilling a job as being an MD. I work in a hospital (not a nurse) but deal with our nursing staff on a daily basis and mainly with the NP’s (nurse practioners). I highly value their expertise and find them far more acessible than the MD’s. As an undergrad, both areas of study will be extremely competitive, but if you are focused you should be able to succeed. Good Luck to you.

You can do just about any other degree and still manage the pre-medical requirements in college.

I’m not at all sure what an “inapplicable degree” in Biology or Physics would look like.
