UC Davis Regents

I received Chancellor’s/Regent’s scholarships to both UCI and UCD (full tuition - 7500 or so). I don’t receive any other aid in grants. I got accepted to San Diego, UCLA and Cal also. My first choice school was Columbia University in New York City and Cornell, I got accepted but my parents decided to not… pay for my schooling -_-, I’m going to be a biomedical engineering/pre-med kid, so I’m trying to decide on the schools in california. I’m from the Bay Area, and i’ve ruled out Berkeley as a school for me to go to - any suggestions? Parents didn’t let me know that I couldn’t go Ivy League until last night. Any thing will help!

Lean towards UCSD since they have a top ranked bioengineering major. Their BioE/pre-med major is not ABET accredited though I believe. Anyway, UCSD is a great place for pre-med. As for UCI vs. UCD, I'm going to say UCD because of many reasons, one being me posting in the UCD forum =P. I would definitely take a UCD regents scholarship over any other school...

If you plan on doing biomedical engineering I'd recommend San Diego since San Diego is one of the best in biomedical. For pre-med it doesn't make much of a difference and the 7500 is really nice. Is money a factor?

go to san diego. i don't want you to bring down my chances of a high gpa if you go to davis or irvine

I likewise am a Regent who turned down Berkeley, and my best advice to you is to pick the school you like the best. You'll do fine/be well prepared for med school by going to either Davis or San Diego. Good luck!

If I were you I would go to San Diego. It is really nice down in So Cal and the campus is right on the beach. I was surprised that about 8 people in my class are going there this year, last year we only had 3 people decide to go there. I would go there but money and distance are a bit much for me. I also got a Regents to Davis in biomed/premed and got into UCSD Bioeng but I already rejected Berkeley because it is too damn competitive. San Diego is like Berkeley with a nicer campus. Also San Diego is the only UC campus that has ABET accredited Bioengineering. Davis' Biomed Engineering isnt accredited and neither is Berkeley's Bioengineering, last time I checked when I was filling out a SWE scholarship. So ya if I were you I would go to UCSD.

i am going to uci. Their biomed eng is abet accredited. What do you guys think. Would uci biomed engineering be better than uc davis’s which are not abet accredited? I know uc davis is a more impressive school though.

If money is an issue, you’d do just as well to go to UCD or UCI. UCSD is better for bioengineering, but your main focus will be high GPA, which is slightly easier at UCD and UCI.

You need to compare apples to apples. **UCSD’s Biomedical Engineering program is **not ABET accredited, but the Bioengineering program is accredited.

Now UCD is exactly the same. The Biomedical Engineering program is not ABET accredited BUT the Biological Systems Engineering Program is.

and from the UCI website

Fast forward three years, I ended up choosing UCLA - I’m a senior now and I’ll be graduating Spring 2010 : ) and I believe we are ABET accredited (not sure whe exactly this happened).

@happy boy: are u kidding how is davis more impressive?..
have u checked the addmission percentages for this year?

legit_anteater: First off, I’ll assume your unbiased, even though your username is the mascot for UCI and you referred to a comment stating that Davis is better than UCI.

Anyway, admission percentages don’t mean anything. Davis accepted, on average, students with higher ACT and SAT scores than Irvine. By your logic, it is therefore more impressive.

I disagree, but would say it’s better for reasons you’ll find in this forum, but try not to rely on such shallow statistics.

Legit_Anteater: you want to talk about meaningless statistics? How about this: Irvine slipped to the #14 public school this year, while Davis edged up to tie for #11 according to U.S. News and World Report. Davis has a larger endowment. Davis has more majors to choose from. The Davis student body has slightly higher ACT/SAT scores.

And Davis students can spell “admission”

And Davis students can spell “admission”

hahahahahahahahahahahahaahha
