@BlackExcellence Go check that admission letter now! If it’s a no, then you have absolutely nothing to lose (already at SFSU) - but if it is a yes, then you have limited time to SIR. By not checking, you automatically make it a no. I lived in the Village in A, third floor, and my roommate was a CS transfer from San Jose. If you don’t get into UCD from the waitlist, you can appeal, but you’d have to do it fast. I’m not sure about the time limit on filing an appeal this late, and you’d have to research that. I have read on previous years’ waitlist threads of people who appealed and were accepted…so it is possible. But be brave and check the UCD decision… If it is negative, then -
Check out: http://admissions.ucdavis.edu/admission/transfers/tr_nonadmitted.cfm
If you aren’t admitted, you can go to the appeal form site, and what you need to fill out should be there. Even if you get rejected on appeal, you have a great fall-back in the CS program at SFSU. This year was crazy strange for UC admissions, mainly due to the budget battles, and more people got waitlisted and/or rejected. Next year is supposed to be better for people seeking admission to a UC, but that doesn’t help those who didn’t get in this year.
I went to SCC (Sac City) because I knew that UCs give CSU students low priority. I think that’s why I was placed on UCD’s waitlist - I noticed that other people who went to 4-yr schools plus CCCs also were waitlisted. I worried that a lot of my SFSU courses wouldn’t transfer, and the SCC counselors all told me they would not. They said I should prepare for another year at SCC to make up the units. UCD was the only college I applied for as a transfer, so I was ready to do the extra year and TAG. But because of having been at SFSU, I would have had to be careful of the number of units I took (unlike someone who was always a CCC student). And the counselors told me my AP would only give me 6 units, when I knew UCs would give it 8 units (and UCD did). The community college counselors were just wrong on everything. I think it’s because they are trained to handle mainly high school to CSU transfers (more than to UCs) - not CSU to CCC to UC. However, UCD counted all my SFSU coursework…
Worst come to worst…you are already at SFSU, not too far from home (I always thought about the new Bay Bridge’s rusted bolts when crossing), and grad school / career applications are only a few years away - keep up the grades, get an internship, and apply to grad programs or a great job - You’ll do great no matter what comes!
@BlackExcellence We probably ate meals and worked out in the gym together freshman year -
@BlackExcellence I think this is an appeal form you’d need from online:
https://admissions.ucdavis.edu/apply/tr_appeal_request.pdf
It is supposed to be submitted with the appeal letter and all transcripts (high school and college).
Re #200 - Should be…“high school to CCC to CSU transfers” - Left out the CCC part in my rant about counselors.
@DavisCowsRule Thanks for all the info, its definitely making me feel better about everything! Im almost 100% positive that we have probably eaten at City Eats and visited the gym at the same time lol. I’m going to check my admission status and get back to you with the results. If I am rejected it would be hard for me to get high school transcripts to the University quickly since I’m currently away on vacation until Wednesday but we’ll see.
@DavisCowsRule @BlackExcellence You cannot appeal if rejected. My rejection email said that they are not considering appeals.
@DavisCowsRule @callieaustin Just checked, rejected. The rejection letter says that UC Davis will not consider appeals but I’m going to submit one anyway. Looks like its the end of the road for UCD for me, guess I’m staying at SFSU.
@callieaustin I guess it is just too late. Most appeals decisions come out in July to early August, so there wouldn’t be enough time.
@BlackExcellence Hey, I went to SFSU because it’s a great school in a fantastic location! I went there because it has the second best ranked cinema department…even though I changed my mind about what I wanted to do. Think of it this way… You are already in a university that many people want to get into, and living in a place that people around the world want to visit - Davis is hot & sometimes a wee bit smelly (cows…used to smell like tomato soup in the summer when the Hunt-Wesson cannery was still around)! Also, the CS program at SFSU is comparable to SJSU’s, and you’ve got the Bay Area’s multitude of companies right there for internships (think grad or job apps) - You are in a really good position in life.
Hi guys! I know this is the wrong thread but I don’t see a SJSU 2015 Transfer Thread. My boyfriend got into SJSU as an International 2015 Fall Transfer. He didn’t look at his orientation page carefully, and missed the chance to register for SJSU Orientation.
The Orientation RSVP deadline for August Orientation was May 2nd, but he only got his acceptance by May 30th. My question is: what to do if you missed registering for orientation for sjsu as a transfer student? Does anyone have any tips?
Thank you so much!
@penguinluver SJSU is not a part of the UC system. I have no idea. Have him talk to someone at SJSU, I’m sure it’ll be fine.
@penguinluver I am not sure about how registration at SJSU works, but usually there is an open enrollment period or a second pass registration time scheduled. If a student can’t make an orientation, they should contact the admissions office or the registrar’s office for the appropriate time to register online. He might not get the classes he wants for Fall 2015 when registering later than those who were in orientation, but can always take those in future semesters.
Just thought of something…If his first pass for registering is scheduled for August (when people are attending orientation), he can probably register online when the pass opens (he’d have to look up the date and time). Then, he wouldn’t miss an early chance at getting the classes he wants. Have him contact admissions about registering online on his own. Also, there might be an orientation cancellation that he can fill.
@penguinluver He should check out his “MySFSU” for registration pass times - late registration starts August 20th on MySJSU.

“MySJSU” …not MySFSU (force of an old habit, having gone to SFSU).
@DavisCowsRule: Thank you so much for your help!! He was able to get into SJSU orientation after all!
@DavisCowsRule Hello again, hope you’re excited for UCD! One quick question… Is it possible to transfer to a UC or private university after my third year? Thanks!
