There is leeway @daviscowsrule, you keep mistating this. I went and relooked. July 1 is a soft deadline. Berkeley even told my daughter that there is always a grace period. They know there are holdups that are not the fault of the student. Certainly get them ordered, but ppl are NOT going to get kicked out for not having transcripts in by July 1. You really have to stop saying that.
@lindyk8 Yes, they will work with a student who is having trouble getting their transcripts in on time. But they do ask for proof of the student’s ordering of the transcript(s). They are a bit less generous with a student who has been admitted last spring, who still has not ordered transcripts sent. It would be the rare community college that cannot process a transcript order within several weeks. A student must communicate with admissions if there is any problem, and should keep a lookout in MyAdmissions for a transcript being received. I know your daughter was accepted into a UC, and so, you are aware of her university’s policies. My family have all attended UCD for over 60 years (and several are now attending), as well as worked for the university, so I know they are serious about getting those transcripts submitted.
No one is denying you need to get the transcripts in and they have deadlines. Of course, you need to take it seriously. They also have a grace period. Saying someone who just got off a waitlist should drive to davis tomorrow to hit the deadline or face a possible rescind is quite another thing.
You also implied a few posts up that students have been immediately rescinded if the transcripts were not in by July 1. I would like to see the documentation, because I can’t even imagine they would do that.
And what about the spring terms that aren’t done until mid June or slightly past? The student needs to wait for the grades to post, and then if they need IGETC that’s about a two week process. Then a day or two in mailing.
I get it. We might in someways be on the same page. I just don’t want applicants to freak out if there’s a delay beyond their control.
I would suggest shooting the uc an email and letting them know it’s forthcoming. I would suggest putting a rush on it.
@lindyk8 - Of course admitted students don’t get the boot immediately! However, they have deadlines for a purpose. “Grace periods” do not go on forever, and admissions stresses that students having any difficulties with records should contact them immediately. By the way, the idea of bringing transcripts into the admissions office in person comes from suggestions by their office - not from me. They state that the transcript envelopes are considered official so long as they remain sealed. Look, I had to get in three transcripts after being admitted this month - and it was accomplished without too much hassle - I even walked one in from SFSU in person. I meant to “imply” in a previous posting that some spaces may come open for waitlisters if anyone is rescinded because their paperwork is not received or has glaring discrepancies from self-reported grades - whenever. People were wondering why admissions would be still notifying their decisions after July 1st, and I simply offered one possibility for a reason. This is NOT a “normal” year for the waitlist, which is being used to juggle admit numbers because of the recent budget battles (more applicants were waitlisted, less admitted in April than usual). So, people are still coming in off the waitlist long after the process would have ended in previous years, and I’m sure admissions is taking that into account for getting transcripts turned in. Those admitted late should certainly call admissions to find out…not just assume they have weeks and weeks to get it done.
@lindyk8 - We must turn in a separate, second official transcript with late grades - such as summer session grades. These are due by September 1st. This is why I suggested that late admits might have until then to get in transcripts. However, never assume, always call to find out for sure. The IGETC certification takes no time at all - I am finishing a lab this summer for mine, and it is all set to go as soon as I finish the class (already have had my counselor fill out the form…it just needs her to sign it and for me to drop it off at admissions). At any rate, IGETC is not required for admission at UCD.
I just talked to admissions and they will be releasing all final decisions tomorrow at about midday. I asked if they were still admitting people and she said she didn’t know. I’m not really getting my hopes up at this point.
It often takes two weeks to get IGETC. It’s noted on numerous CCC web pages, and time delays with IGETC certification are noted on UC sites (it’s a big problem the UCs deal with, which is why the certification date is July 15 – although most CCCs send both out together). I realize you live in Davis, and you’re a high schooler, as I recall. You provide a great service to admits but you are not the admissions office.
You made two comments that people could get immediately rescinded if transcripts were not in by July 1. That’s what you said. All I was doing was noting they had leeway. Plus, no UC will ever dump you without a final email request for transcripts.
Anywho, it didn’t warrant so much discussion. I think the topic has been exhausted.
@lindyk8 I am now a junior at UCD. From a family of many, many UCD graduates and current students. I have relatives who have attended just about every UC during the past 100 years (grandfather attended UCB in the 1930s). I had a year at SFSU and a year at SCC. And yes, I was born and raised in Davis, and I know the UCD campus and policies inside out. Give it a break already. Either people get in or they don’t. Either they get their paperwork in or they don’t. Either they get rescinded or they don’t. I wish every applicant the best. You are putting words in my writing that simply were not there, and I’m sorry you misinterpreted my meaning. If you have no one in your personal sphere who is involved in being admitted to UCD (or any UC at this point), why are you so involved in this process? Frankly, if a newly admitted student has any questions at all, they should contact admissions for the correct answers.
rejected! i expected it
Rejected…
@Severin & @Pcclancer26 Really sorry to hear this… Where do you plan to go?
Rejected!! kinda knew it already. there’s always next year!
Rejected, but I expected this. I tried to transfer as a sophomore and it’s really hard to get in that way. I’m going to do TAG and make sure I get in next year!
Got my admission decision just a bit ago but I’m too scared to check. What did the e-mail say for those rejected?
Rejected. I am disappointed and am confused by the department’s decision, but am going to be okay.
@DavisCowsRule I’m going to UCI but I’m not going to know anyone there unlike UCD
@Severin UCI has a really good reputation for its Electrical Engineering department & the university is rising in its ranking (now 11th). If there’s university housing at UCI for transfers, maybe try to get your own room in it. You’ll have people you’ll get to know fast, but some privacy, too. I keep reminding myself that in just a few years, we’ll all be going through applications again - either for grad schools or jobs.
@DavisCowsRule Fellow Gator here!!! (SFSU).
@BlackExcellence Are you from the Bay Area? I enjoyed being so near the city (SFSU is closer to Daly City) - There’s always something happening and great places to go visit - Most of the time the weather is great, just get used to fog and occasional high wind. If you have a car with you, you can drive down the coast to the beaches, too. It’s a small campus, and a lot of people commute each day, but it’s good if you can join clubs. I lived in the Village at Centennial Square (VCS), which was really excellent (a lot of transfers live there), because those dorms have apartments with single rooms, private bathrooms, and full kitchens & living room area. There’s only four people per apartment, too. There’s Stonestown Galleria just north of campus for shopping, movies, and food, and more in Daly City. I left SFSU because it didn’t offer the pre-law program I wanted (I entered as a cinema major) - and being from Davis, I always wanted to be at UCD. Also, my mom has cancer, and staying close matters these days. Since SFSU’s CS department is known for software development, and is close to companies in the Bay Area, you’ll probably be able to land an internship. Oh, and be careful when crossing 19th Avenue -
@DavisCowsRule I’m from Oakland, but lived in the Village (B) for my freshmen and sophomore year. Next year I’ll be junior which is why I wanted to transfer to Davis now for CS. I took the risk and stayed at SFSU versus moving to a CC to use their program to transfer, although everyone told me it would be nearly impossible. I received my admission letter but im way too scared to check it because rejection once again would kill me. Im starting to like SFSU but would rather transfer to an overall better school, like Davis. Do you know if it is possible to appeal if rejected from the waitlist?
