UC Davis Transfer Fall 2016 Chance?

Do I have a chance to transfer to UC Davis?

Major: Computer Science

GPA: 3.41

Prereq: no

IGETC: yes

TAG: no

Personal Statements: I spent a lot of time working on them and believe my essays are well written.

EC: Math Tutor, worked at subway, started a computer repair business, and did volunteering back in high school.

Grade Trends: I attended a middle college high school (A program that mandates you to take college classes while enrolled in HS) and was depressed (Mentioned in Personal Statement), which made me perform average on my GE classes. I graduated high school early and recovered from my depression, which led to me trying extremely hard raising my 2.9 gpa to a 3.4 gpa in one year by acing calculus, chem, and comp sci classes.

A response would be extremely helpful and thank you for taking the time to read this.

What prereqs have you completed? Fellow CS applicant here but I TAGed.

I personally think you have a good chance.

I took Calc 1, Gen Chem 1, Calc 2, C programming, and Java programming. This spring, I am taking C++, Calc 3, Linear Algebra, and second english class. In the Summer, I am finishing my second Gen Chem class.

Idk what you mean when you just list the languages you’ve taken, are those Intro/OOP/Data Structures? As said above though I think you’ll be cool, that upwards trend is great man. Looks like you’ll have most of the prereqs done but they’ll base your pre-req completion (for admission) on classes up to your Spring 2016 semester, not after it.

Oops I didn’t notice you’re missing prereqs, Fingers crossed. If not, definitely finish up your prereqs and try again next year.

They won’t consider anything you take in the summer. If you don’t get in this time, Reapply via TAG.

Sorry my bad, regarding my comp sci classes, I will get object oriented and intro done by spring. I will be missing my second chem class, which I will be completing in the summer and the data structures class. The rest of the pre reqs like discrete math are not offered at my college.

Sorry to hear man :frowning: It sounds like you should be betting on Fall 2017 admission tbh. Just keep your grades up and complete those necessary classes, good luck with everything. Also UCD has changed the provisions for Computer Science in regards to TAG for Fall 2017 applicants, make sure you review it.

Alright thanks for the responses guys. Also, do you think its possible to transfer into UC Irvine then?

When the UCI rep came to my school he told me the average accepted GPA was 3.4, and considering for CS most CC classes don’t transfer for any Irvine prereqs except Calculus I’d say you have a good chance.

What do you think of my chances?

Please Read the Whole Thing:

MAJOR: COMPUTER SCIENCE

GPA PRIOR TO FALL SEMESTER/QUARTER: 3.92

TAG: YES

The TAG stated that I needed to get a C or greater in all courses taken.
I got a 2.68 for this current semester/quarter.
Overall I have higher than the 3.2 required overall GPA

I have completed IGETC

I took classes at Evergreen Valley College (Semester) and Foothill College (Quarter)

I received the following graded:

Evergreen Valley College: (no +/- grades)

Calculus 1: D (5 units)

Chemistry 1A (general): B (5 unit)

Foothill College:

Computer Science 1A–Intro to C++: B (5 units)

History 4C (1700 to the fall of the Berlin Wall): A+ (4 units)

I have decided to take the following (all at Evergreen Valley college):

Spring 2016 (upcoming starting Feb 1st):

Comp 75: intro to object oriented programming (4 units)
This is a similar class to the one I took at Foothill. I did not have a good understanding of the concepts.
I believe this course will be taught in JAVA.

Calculus 1: first calculus class (5 units)
I have to repeat this class I received a D in

Chemistry 1B (the last general chem class) (5 units)
This will complete my science GE requirement

Summer 2016:

Calculus 2: (last calculus class before multi-variable)

I will have over 90 quarter / 60 semester units.
I have completed the math and english transfer class.

I originally planned to take calc 2 this semester and multi-variable calculus during the summer. However, I did not pass Calc 1 to be able to follow this schedule. Also multi-variable calculus is not offered in the summer any way.

I submitted the academic update and explained the concepts I had trouble with in Calculus 1 and explained how I used the break to review and plan to pass calculus 1.

I also called the tag counselor and he explained I still have a chance and that each application in these type of situations will be looked at on a case by case basis at UC Davis.

I also applied to the following (all as mathematics major):
UC Riverside
UC San Diego
UC Santa Barbara

I need Calc 1 and 2 in order to be allowed to be admitted and apply to SD and Riverside. I can take them in the summer according to them.

What do you think my chances are?

Does anyone have any experience in this type of situation, let me know?

Please and Thank You

I saw this late, but thank you for the information. Also, what are my chances to UCSB statistical science?

Davis actually doesnt use your personal statement in the admission decision just to let you know

So just curious anyone think I still got a shot at UC Davis? Anyone been in a similar situation?
whatcha think crazy wango?

@zerglingdude You have a high gpa so I think you have a shot but who knows with admission decisions. what prereqs are you missing? I only have a 3.12 which barely meets the cutoff for engineering and im only missing one prereq that my cc doesnt offer. I didnt TAG but I also didnt pass my math class last semester and am retaking it right now so we have that in common.

@paintball1029 I think you have a great chance getting into UCSB

I am missing data structure and differential equation for UCSB and I got in with a GPA of 3.61 as a Stats major.

Also, I had a 2.55 UC GPA in my first semester.

My first semester was a mess. I took two ESL course (reading + writing) and got a C in biology and B in Pre-calculus.

For the following semester I got a B in calculus 1 and intro psychology.

After that I was able to get to 3.61 with straight As for several semester.

Not to mention, I was also a Math tutor too.

I think You and I share some similarities. I think you are in a good shape too.

@crazywango

How do you know they don’t use your personal statement?

What the freak, why are we required to write one if we’re tagging? lol.
