@Anhionring I was wondering the same thing haha. I’m the other way around I have a 4.0 in Gen ed but lost my 4 in Calc 1.
@tiffanyk hi! How do you know your tag was accepted ?
Hi
Can you guys please chance me?
CC transfer
Major: biochemistry
GPA: 3.2 after TAU
IGETC: done
pre-reqs: finishing spring (calc 2)
TAG: no, I did TAG UCSB but probably revoked. I had around a 3.49 when I did TAG then I got C in ochem(fall) which dropped me to a 3.19. After winter I got it back up to a 3.21/23
My first choice in school is between UCD/UCSB
Applied: UCD UCR UCI UCSB
Accepted: UCR
Denied: none yet
College app: volunteered at a hospital for over a year, CC clubs, immigrant, first generation college student in the fam
Transferring from CSUF
Intended major: Art History
GPA: 3.0 (I know)
Pre-reqs all done
Applied: CSUS, SFSU, SJSU, UCSC and UCD
Accepted: SFSU and SJSU
Denied: None yet
First choice: UCD
I know my chances for either of the UCs is low. If I get denied from UCD then my next choice will be between SFSU and CSUS so it’s nice to know that I am accepted to SFSU at least.
@Fmcgillivray did you tag UCD? They would’ve taken you with TAG easily since their tag is 3.0 & you have a fair shot at UCSC! Why didn’t you apply to UCR? I think you have a decent chance at both schools especially with your major
How do you all know your TAG was accepted? I applied for a TAG for UCI but in their response message they said:
“UC Irvine does not provide early admission evaluation or early admission decisions as part of its
TAG program.”
Do other colleges give early decisions for taggers?
Unfortunately since I’m transferring from a CSU (Fullerton) I can’t do TAG. It’s only for community college transfers.
I didn’t apply to UCR because the reason I’m transferring in the first place is to get further away from home, specifically Northern California.
Also, as an update, I just was accepted into CSUS as well. Only UCSC and UCD to go!
Putting themselves in the shoes of a pre-med, if anyone here had to choose between attending UC Berkeley (MCB), UCLA (Microbio, Immunology, & Molecular Genetics), and UC Davis (Biochem), which would you choose and why?
@yamjand Yeah. As far as I’m aware, UCI is the ONLY campus that waits until regular decisions are release to let people know if their TAGs are approved. It’s kinda stupid tbh… >.>
@DisguisedOnion Putting myself in the shoes of a premed student, I’d pick Berkeley because I feel like they probably have more funding being that it’s considered one of the best UC’s and that SHOULD mean they have more updated equipment to work with. But I’m just a CS major so take that with a grain of salt. :3
Not so sure of my chances, but sort of worried because my GPA isn’t so great. Doesn’t help that the economics program is the most applied for at Davis out of all majors offered.
Major: Economics
GPA: 3.20 after TAU
TAG: UCSC (Not accepted)
IGETC: Completed
Pre-Reqs: All done but Calc II (finishing this semester)
Applied: UCD, UCI, UCM, UCR, UCSD, UCSB, UCSC
CC student but attended a CSU for 2 semesters with not so great grades.
@cinsix how do you know your tag wasn’t accepted ?
@biochembbs9 UCSC let me know the TAG decision in January. They’re one of the schools (along with UCD, I believe) that lets TAG applicants know if they were accepted early. Strangely, UCSC said my GPA didn’t meet the threshold (3.13 before TAU) although the TAG for the school is 3.0. Unfortunately, I couldn’t appeal since TAG decisions are final.
@cinsix oh okay thank you! And I think you have a fair shot with Davis! They’re pretty lenient with transfer students it just sucks how we hear from them so late
@Cinsix Those stats show upward trend which I am sure shows up as a net positive and will benefit you down the line (UCSC + UCD).
On a side note, surprisingly, Econ majors–as popular of a social science it is–have a variance of admits GPA-wise.
I think you’re fine! Keep active but not stressed, peace in mind is your best medicine.
Maybe I’m not seeing the reply but UCD’s TAG requires a 3.2 GPA. UCSC requires a 3.0. So @Fmcgillivray had a great shot with UCSC’s TAG–still think it’s feasible to receive an acceptance offer from any school on the board (CSUs + UCSC/UCD)
EDIT: I didn’t read the following message. TAG wasn’t in the cards, but still have great shots here!
@DisguisedOnion I’m also premed, and I’m staying away from UCB and UCLA. The competition there amongst premeds is cutthroat; I’ve had intelligent premed friends that worked their butts off and got <3.2’s. I’m personally planning to go to a private school (USC, SCU, Claremont Mckenna or USF), but I would choose Davis amongst those three because you’d have a higher chance of excelling academically. GPA is the biggest thing that medical schools look at; even if you have a killer MCAT and incredible EC’s you might be screened automatically if you have a GPA that is below a certain threshold (say, <3.3).
However, if you are sure that you would be able to perform well at UCB or UCLA, then I would definitely go with UCLA. They have one of the best medical schools in the nation, UCLA is more prestigious than UCD (which would be beneficial when applying to med schools; if you do well at UCLA, you would definitely be able to handle the work at med school), and you would be living in Westwood, which is a huge selling point of UCLA as far as I’m concerned. But visit all of the schools, do your research and choose the one that you think would be the best fit; you’ll be much more likely to excel academically if you’re happy at the school that you end up attending. All three of them are incredible schools; just go with the one that you would be the most comfortable at.
Do any of you know when we will hear back from davis regarding decisions??
@janice4527 In mid/late April is when UCD will release their decisions. BTW, if any of you have read previous transfer threads for UCD, I would check the mybill trick again. It seemed like it worked last year and I bet it works this year as well!
