UC Davis vs. Sac State

I have been accepted to both Sac State and UC Davis. Sac Sate was originally my top choice but after being accepted to Davis, I have started to think about my options more. I want to be in the medical field and I know that Davis has really good biology programs. I am also very interested in Kinesiology and I know that Sac State has a well established Kinesiology program.
I am going to visit both colleges next weekend before I make my decision on which school to attend. What should I look for when I visit these schools? Does anyone have any insight on which school has a better atmosphere? I know that Sac State is right next to the river with bike and hiking trails so that would be extremely fun to do. What about Davis? What is there to do around town in Davis?

Also, my boyfriend of over a year is planning to go to Sac State. I know not to choose a school based off of him, but any advice on what to do/how to make the relationship work if I go to Davis?
Has anyone had a steady boyfriend while in college? What is it like?

If you can afford it, I’d encourage you to attend Davis. It’s got a real ‘college town’ feel to it - the college and town are one whereas Sac State is kind walled off from Sacramento by the river, hwy 50 and some railroad tracks. Though some students live on/adjacent campus, Sac State is a real commuter school. Most of your classmates will live at home with their parents. At Davis, most students live in student housing. There’s plenty of biking and no shortage of ‘stuff’ to do in and around Davis.

Davis is about 20 miles from Sac State. At that distance, if your relationship is meant to be, you’ll manage just fine.

Sac State is a good school - I have 2 degrees from there. As a Sac State Alum, Davis is a better school in a better environment. If you were my daughter, that’s where I’d encourage you to go.

Agree that Davis would give a better environment. To me the real question centers around your interest in Kinesiology. Are you planning on doing something that requires a degree in this, or in which one would be more advantageous than a more academic degree in Biology? That would be the case where Sac State offers something Davis doesn’t. But if you’re deciding based on this it should be based on a lot of thought and research to convince yourself that you really need that particular degree, because you’d be trading off what is probably a better college environment & experience for a specific degree offered at one school and not the other.

As for what to do on a college visit, any good book on college admissions will cover this. One I recommend is “Admission Matters”.

UC Davis is by far the better university. Career wise it’ll will make a major difference to you in how potential future employers view your resume.
