I’m admitted to both schools and I’m having so much trouble deciding between the two. I’m from San Diego and I love it, but UCSD is so unsocial from what I’ve heard and that scares me a lot. I love the campus of Davis, but I’m worried there isn’t much to do outside of the college. My major is communications and i don’t know which school fits my needs of wanting a fun, social life along with getting a good education.
I have a friend who attends UC Davis…He always finds plenty to do, specially since Sacramento is pretty close.
UCSD isn’t antisocial unless you make an active effort to lock yourself in your dorm and not make any friends. If you talk to people, you’ll find parties and fun things to do. You’ve probably seen most of what San Diego has to offer, but my friend visited me from Davis recently and was extremely jealous of the opportunities and spaces both on and off campus.
If you can afford to go to Davis, go there.
We are from San Diego and my daughter attended Davis and loved it!
Visit Davis and look at the faces of the people on campus. They look happy!
Besides the outdoor activities, SF, Berkeley, Sacramento, Tahoe, Yosemite, and Napa, the support system for academic help is wonderful at Davis. They offer free tutoring. The professors are actually accessible! The campus is beautiful and huge. The preprofessional programs actually prepare you well.
The labs/internships are available either at the school of medicine, community clinics, State Capitol or summer Silicon placements. The biking community on campus, as well as the town of Davis, is great and it makes you aware of how green everything is.

Friend’s daughter accepted to UCSD, Davis AND Berkeley - wound up at Davis(!). She had visited Davis multiple times, had friends there, and is really enjoying it.
I forgot to add, you are already from San Diego. You know what there is to do in town. Open up to a new experience.
