Hello! I am trying to decide between UC Davis and SCU for biological engineering. I do not know all that much on either of the school’s programs, so I was wondering if anyone had any information on which school would be better.

My concerns for Davis are the large classes and getting the classes that I want/need to graduate on time. I was also wondering if Santa Clara’s location in the Silicon Valley makes it that much more valuable for finding a job after graduating.

And any insight on the social scenes at both schools would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS

Okay, there’s a bunch of factors here.
First of all, I wouldn’t worry too much about the class sizes. Honestly, if you want to know the professor well (for example, some students like to know the professor well so they can ask for a rec letter later on) then you can go to office hours. I can see what you mean about how you might not get into the classes you want and it may take 5 years to graduate [rare, but possible].

Also, look at the cost. SCU is a very expensive school compared to UCD.
SCU is generally known more for business-related majors. I think if you were doing business and you went to SCU to pursue an MBA and then looked for a job, it would be really favorable, but I honestly doubt going to SCU for biomed engineering for UNDERGRAD is going to help you get a job in the silicon valley. As long as you go to a decent school, maintain your grades & have research/internship experience, you’ll get a good job.

With that being said, I’d shoot for UCD. If you got a scholarship to SCU, then maybe that’d change things. SCU is an amazing school, definitely, but I don’t think it’s worth the full cost, especially with a major like biomed engineering. Good luck though! Both schools are fantastic.

i really need to know more about these two situations, someone please give us a different perspective on this, thanks! It would mean a life-changing decision for me! BUMP
