My top two choices for college next year as a freshman undergrad has come down to UC Davis and SDSU. I applied to business for all of my schools, but UC Davis does not have a business school, instead they offer agricultural economics. I know that SDSU has a high ranked business school, but I don’t know how to compare this to Davis’s agricultural econ major. I know that UC Davis is a better school overall, and does not have the same negative stigma that SDSU has, although, I got into the honors college at SDSU. If anyone has any advice or personal experience I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
To correct myself, the major at Davis is called Managerial Economics (Under the school of Agriculture)
Why are you stating that SDSU has a negative stigma? (You must not be from the SD area).
SDSU has a phenomenal business program! Their alumni network, for internships in business in SoCal) is huge.
My dd attended Davis for science courses and it’s a very good school; she loved it! But she didn’t major in business. If she had, it would have been SDSU.
@Gumbymom’s son will be graduating this May from SDSU. She can give you current information on her experiences with SDSU.
I also got into the honors college, and I’m seriously considering it. I didn’t apply to Davis but if I did I would choose SDSU over it because it actually has a business school which means you are getting a more focused education/curriculum and you have personal business school resources. It also depends on what you want to do in the future and what you want to study. Economics is more theory based and usually is good for grad school, business is more applicable. I think you should tour both though if you can. I toured SDSU and I liked it, I didn’t love it but it was a nice campus and it has a lot of amenities/things to do. Plus, it’s in a metropolitan area, whereas Davis is kind of isolated, which means the ease of getting internships/jobs and having a vast selection/opportunity is bigger in SD
Having the Business School at SDSU would lean me towards there if you are all in on a Business major. Both are good schools…best to tour them and feel the vibe and best fit for yourself.
