UC Davis vs UC Irvine

Hello, I am choosing between these two colleges, UC Davis and UCI.

At UCD, my major is Neurobiology and my major at UCI is Biology. I was wondering which college I should choose between these two if I want to pursue medicine in the future.

I am in the middle of deciding whether I want to be a neurosurgeon or a physician (such as J.D. from Scrubs, can anyone actually offer me the actual name for this or is it just "physician"? Not too sound too unintelligent on the subject...) so that is why I partially want to go to UCD because I have the privilege to explore the major (Neurobiology) which UCI does not offer.

Which school would be recommended for its biology program and providing better experience in pursuing med school? What are some other factors about each school - social life, campus, etc.? Any other reasons for choosing either school would be appreciated too.

Thank you in advance for the responses!

I will also be visiting Irvine tomorrow (4/20) and Davis on Friday (4/22). Any suggestions on where in particular that I should visit? Thanks.

For Irvine, unless you’re finally set with anything related to financial aid i suggest to take advantage of visiting their financial aid office (it piles up fast). Definitely go on the tram tours, idk if they have it for Discover Day, but they did have it for Celebrate UCI Day. Anyways, it helps to get a feel of what the campus looks like. Visit booths, especially according to what you want to major as. Get to know all the clubs you’re interested in, get involved as much as you can your first year! Dorms dorms dorms! Uhm, that is basically it in my opinion. I wish I could have explored more, but I had limited time. Hope you enjoy Discover UCI Day~

Both schools are strong in biology and pre-med. I’d pick based on the towns.

Davis - A true college town. Big college in a small town. Nearly everyone lives on campus or in nearby off-campus apartments. Davis is an isolated town surrounded by agricultural area, but it is a good location halfway between the ski slopes of Tahoe and the bright lights of the Bay Area. Sacramento about 20 minutes away by car. School athletics are a bigger deal at Davis than at Irvine. Davis weather is hot in the summer and cold & rainy in the winter.

Irvine - A suburb of the LA mega-city. Irvine is not really a college town. More of a commuter school than Davis. Weaker school spirit than Davis IMO. But the weather is better than Davis and the beach is not too far away.

If you own a car you’ll be able to do thing at Irvine. Mostly shopping though, it’s a rich area where everyone commutes and it does get quiet on the weekends. Irvine has little division 1 sports and lots of clubs. School spirit isn’t the best compared to UCB, UCD, and UCLA.

Davis’ Aggie Pack is the largest student spirit organization in the nation. So the school is well spirited and welcoming. Davis has around 23 Division 1 sports and lots of clubs too.

Overall I think Davis is well organized and has a better “college” feel along with a better “college experience”. The education is about same in bio, but Davis really shines in anything environmental & vets. UCI is just a well rounded school.

I think Davis is more toward agriculture than medical compared to Irvine. I prefer the Irvine area because of the weather (I’m from San Diego, it’s good weather all year-round) but not so much the lack of diversity. Academically, I would pick Irvine but overall, I would have to go with Davis.

Ridiculous statement. Either is great for premed. Personally, I like Davis better bcos it’s more of a college town, a college environment. UCI is very quiet on weekends.
