UC Davis waitlisted vs UCSB vs UCR vs UCSC for pre-med?

Hi, I'm a senior in high school and I got accepted UCSB, UCR and UCSC.
Sadly I was rejected from UCI, UCLA and UCSD....
Today I found out that I've been put on a wating list for UC Davis.
I'm still waiting on UCB which is coming out later today, but my hopes are very low.

Anyways, I'm going to major in Biochem and plan to go to a med school in the future.
Which college is better for pre-med students?

My dad wants me to go to UCR because that's where all of my older sibilings are.
My 2 brothers are attending UCR at the moment and we also have a house over there.
But.....I really don't want to go to UCR knowing that it's nickname is UC rejects....

As for UCSB I've heard it's higher ranked then UCR or UCSC but...it's a party school.
I'm the type of girl that likes to sit in a library and read rather than go partying and drinking.
I don't know if I'll be able to get used to the extremely wild atmosphere over there.

and lastly UCSC.....I really dunno anything about this school.
I've never lived in Santa Cruz and neither have my parents.
The only thing I know is that it's one of the lowest ranked UCs like UCR.

Same goes for UCD.
Never lived here or been here.
The only thing I know is that UCD is the highest rank out of
all the other 3 UCs I've been accepted to.
I'v heard chances of getting accepted is pretty slim even
if you DO accept their waiting list offer.

Alot of people say it's better to go to a less competitive undergrad school
if you plan to do med, cuz you really have to take care of your GPA and
going to a competitive school is not going to make that any easier.

I like the quiet but I also like to go out on the weekends to
go shopping in the mall or hang out with friends in a small bar.
I've been to Riverside a couple of times before but UCR seemed like a SUPER boring place.
Like literally...they had no malls or theaters or anything like that around the school.

I want to go to a college that is in a overall quiet environment but still has
decent malls/bars and several retaurants where I can eat stuff like Chinese food or sushi
What should I do???
Some friendly advice plz??? :)

Should I accept the wait list offer from UCD?
Or should I just consider between the other 3 UCs that accepted me??

I think you should wait for UCD because it has higher rank of other and I think Davis has better biology department than other 3
Seem like you don’t want to attend party school, then I think UCSC will out of you list since UCSC is kinda known as party school with a really nice beach nearby, I have friend who attends UCSC, she said weather is pretty nice over there, it is always sunny
Davis’s weather is okay, it is really hot and sunny in summer,
for mall/ bar, I think you can always find one near campus if you don’t mind driving
well, I really think you should ask more people for advise, like counselors/ teachers, they have better idea of these stuffs :)

I wouldn’t commit until April 30th and wait for UCD as it seems like a good match for you. My daughter got accepted to UCD and is declining (to go to UCSB instead). So you have moved up already on the list. Good luck!

It’s only undergraduate. you should definitely visit ucsb, one of the most beautiful schools in California. I’ve been there and it is truly a great place. academic wise, there are numerous Nobel-Peace prize winning teachers at UCSB (5 teachers winning the award since 2000 for chemistry, bio, and physics).

you should also consider the fact that you won’t find out from Davis until after may 1 n before June 1st. therefore it may affect your housing at ucsb if you happen to wait for Davis and hold off on housing arrangements and preferences. being a UC, there will obviously be problems for many undergrad freshmen that may cause them to live off campus.

also, ucsb’s ranking this year will skyrocket. as the acceptance rate has dropped from 49% to 25%. many talented students have been rejected from sb yet gotten into Davis. I have myself been accepted to Davis yet denied from ucsb for bio.

I would absolutely love to go to ucsb instead. best of luck with your future!

@whatsmychance

where did u get the ucsb acceptance rate from??? Davis’ acceptance rate this year is very low, like 4500 spots for 45800 applicants. I got rejected by Davis but got into ucsb and uci, this is weird =[

I got that stat from a friend that got accepted and knew how many applicants were accepted n how many applied. I didn’t get into irvine or sb but would choose that over Davis. :/. waitlisted at davis

This is kind of out of topic, but UC Riverside is only 10-20 minutes MAX away from the Galleria at Tyler (mall,) and right next to it is the AMC Theater…
Just look around next time.

Please don’t decline a school because of its label.
I never hear of anyone calling UCR ‘UC Reject’ anymore…and to be fair its been getting harder to even get into it, many people who deemed it a safety school have been even getting rejected.

Source: I live there.

@whatsmychance: Same here man…rejected from SB and I, waitlisted at Davis.

i’ll be honest with you. As a UCR student, I do think that Riverside is a pretty boring place unless you have a car to get out of Riverside. (you can go to LA or go to beach in San Diego or New Port Beach w/ car) The only thing they have is the theater and some restaurants in front of the campus and a mall that is 20 minutes away from UCR. Most people find their own fun from their dorms with their suitemates. But dorms are always fun.

In terms of studying environment, I find UCR a very good place to study because everything is close to each other. (only 5 minutes from dorm to the library.) Plus, dorms are pretty quiet on weekends so it’s not hard to study in your room. I’m in love with the area because it’s such a great place for me to study but that’s just me.

If you don’t like the environment of UCR, then I would suggest you to visit other campuses and see what kind of environments you want to study in.

@Carman…I think you are confusing UCSC with UCSB. The weather at UCSC is NOT always sunny. In fact, they have lots of rain in the winter and it can be overcast all day even in the summer sometimes. I know…I went to school there and still live in the area. Its sunny most of the time at UCSB.

And Kelly, my physician went to UCR and went on to UCLA for med school. He told me that the UCLA med school accepted a lot of UCR students. Don’t know if that’s still true, but he’s not that old so maybe it is. Go where you think you’d be happiest and just get really good grades. I agree that Davis sounds more like your kind of place. Nice, relatively quiet little college town surrounding campus, but easy access to Sacramento and not too far from San Francisco either. And of course a good premed reputation. Good luck.
