UC decision dates...

I have this problem where when I procrastinate I click on every bolded topic I see on this forum without reading the title. That and even when I do read the title of the topic, I forget the countdown is in here.

LOL. I only click on something pertaining to UC transfers or if it sounds really interesting, like the 39 yr old student topic. Which ended up being about UC transfer anyways. The "sky is the limit" topic seemed kinda interesting too.

But, i really don't care about people transfering to Columbia etc nor do i know anything about that,

Those I click and click Transfers again right away. I don't read it, I just want the bolded topic to disappear. I'm guess I'm obsessive compulsive or something O.o

lol, will this obsessive behavior end after admissions come out?

i think bolded topic disapears automaticly if u visit the site twice, or at least it does for me.

Oh well, time to go eat then study more for my quiz manana.

Yeah I saw a pattern in Berkeley's and UCLA's past year acceptances. Berkeley valued GPA over ECs and essays while UCLA took the lower gpas with more prereqs. UCLA even rejected a 3.8 student with no ECs while berkeley admitted that same student.

Damn I feel sorry for the freshmen too. If UCLA and Cal applications keep jumping 12 and 13 percent every year, theres going to be acceptance rates in the teens pretty soon. That's insane.

Then you should be happy the no child left behind policy isn't working. Otherwise every kid in the US would end up applying to colleges.

so is that what the No Child left behind policy supposed to do? Get kids ready for college?

There is one dude running for Goverger against Arnold that promises to lower college tuition by 25% and increase amount of counselors by 2 in every HS.

Everyone better vote for him. I know I am.

Does anyone have UCSB's transfer statistics from last year?

<a href="http://www.ucop.edu/news/studstaff.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.ucop.edu/news/studstaff.html</a></p>

7,719 CCC transfers; 5,032 CCC admits; A little over 1,400 SIRs

Hmm..65% acceptance rate. Is there anywhere I can find the average GPA for acceptees? I'm starting to think my 3.29 just might be good enough...:)

Coast, this link may help. <a href="http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof05_mjr.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof05_mjr.htm</a></p>

I feel sorry for the highschoolers too. I imagine they are probably going to cut down ccc transfers and move them over to freshman spots in the future.

I didn't think that was possible? I though transfers replenish the ranks of the university students who have dropped out and slacked. And when the colleges get additional funds, increase the class size to fill there budget for the class of 200(X).

That's a great link Buerre! Do you if there's anything similar for UCSB? I really don't have any aspirations of getting into UCLA, but I am really hoping UCSB accepts me.

Coast, this link may help. <a href="http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/pros..._Prof05_mjr.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/pros..._Prof05_mjr.htm</a></p>

Great link. Theres one for Berkeley too but I can't find it.

*Interesting to note UCLA's College of Letters and Science transfers' GPA hovers around 3.4 to 3.5. While the Science and Engineering school goes from 3.7 to 3.8.

UCSB should have averages about .1 to .2 points lower. A 3.3 should be competitive.

Coast,
i couldn't find a similar link for UCSB. :(
you could still use the info as a general guide. good luck to you!

ME: SO when will the decision be released.
REP: ENd of April to end of may

ME: DId u guys get more apps this year than last?
Rep: OH yeah, a lot more.

ME: DO EC matter for CC transfers?
Rep: Yes, we like to c u do things outside of school work.

ME: DO essays matter, or is GPA the most important factor?
Rep: We value everything equally.

I thought they didn't get more apps this year, since UCLA got more apps in 2003 than 2004. Also thought that GPA was most important.

Not saying what he said was right, just kinda surprised me."

Sounds like that rep should be fired...They got less TRANSFER applicants this year(he may have thought you meant freshmen?). And they do not "value everything equally." That would be grossly unfair. The comprehensive review process puts the most value on academic records.

Berkeley does not admit by major as UCLA does, so their information is a bit different (there are a few exceptions, such as the legal studies major). Berkeley admits based on divisions within schools. For instance: the humanities division under Letters & Science had around a 44% admit rate last fall, while the social sciences division had about a 22% admit rate.

And UCSB's averages are WAY lower than UCLA, not just a couple points. A 3.3 is overqualified for UCSB. In fact, for letters & science applicants to UCSB (which have a 3.5 average at UCLA), you just need a 2.8. Other majors have only a 2.7 requirement to be competitive (not just a minimum, but to BE COMPETITIVE).
