"UC GPA" question

Ok…so this might be a stupid question…but I’ve asked my counselors at school and they never give a straight answer so I though i would as you guys…

UC GPA…is that a student’s weighted GPA from 10-11th grade…or is that a student’s unweighted gpa from 10-11th grade?

Also…do UC’s add classes you’ve taken at a community college and at a UC during the summer as part of your gpa…for eg. I took 2 community college courses…and 2 classes at a UC during 10th grade summer and 11th grade summer…so will they add the grades that I got in those classes to my overal “UC GPA.”

Thanks!

UC GPA is weighted GPA from 10th and 11th, but only 4 courses (8 semesters) maximum will be weighted (ie. if you took 5 APs in those years, only 4 will count). In addition, only up to 2 classes can be weighted in sophomore year.

The UC GPA is a weighted GPA for all courses, high school and College level courses, completed in the 10 and 11 grade years. Note that the day after you end your 9 grade year is the start of your 10 grade year; so summer between 9 and 10 grades is counted in the UC GPA. Only UC approved honors courses are considered when weighting the GPA for the first 8 semesters of coursework.

UC GPA is neither. You begin with only the classes that are approved by the UC system as a-g category, and only from grades 10 and 11. You then record only the letter grade, dropping any + or -. Finally, they will add additional points into the calculation for a certain number of AP semesters. The result is that the highest possible UC GPA is 4.5, which is indeed weighted, but is not going to be the same w or uw GPA that your school calculates.

I took 2 woman studies courses at a UC ...and they arent in the a-g category...so they dont count in my gpa?

Woman Studies courses at a college or University should be a "g - College-Preparatory Electives" course and be counted in the UC GPA. Just make sure for the honors weighting that any College level courses are UC Transferable, since these are UC courses they are transferable, and are 3 semester (4 quarter) units or more.

to ucd admissions'

if one takes a upperdivision UC course for enrichment, will it get points somewhere in the comprehensive review or will it be just noted as a-g course.

An upper division course is still a college level course and will be considered like all other college level courses.

thanks ucd.

this will bring my D's UC GPA down a bit as she got a C+

UCD Admissions-- If the course was taken in summer after 11th grade, will it still be counted as 11th grade GPA?

The summer preceding the 11 grade year is the senior year and courses should be listed there. However, we do allow students to list these courses in the 11 grade section so that they can be considered when calculating GPA, most likely the will opt out of this option if the course will lower their GPA. I hope this helps.

Thanks UCD Admissions

I checked the app again and the 3 cc courses taken after 11 grade and during the summer before senior yr were listed under 11th grade course work.

is there some way to inform them.

thx

Since GPA calculations have been completed and campuses are in the final stages of the admissions process I'm not sure if this information can be taken into consideration. You can always contact the campuses to determine what their time line is like and if this information can be reported; if so, how to report it.

UCD admissions. The difference in GPA is 0.079. Is it worth asking them at this juncture??

Although I would like to say that a 0.08 increase in the GPA isn't worth the effort, you never know. At this point perhaps it's better to await the admissions decision and if not admitted contact the campus to discuss any options your student might have.

Thanks UCD admissions. It is that time of the year and my D really wants to attend Davis. Just very nervous thats all.

UCD admissions....I was wondering when do decisions start coming out ... and also..I was wondering on myadmission account..will it tell you , you got in or you did not get in when you long in( when decisions come out). Or do you have to insinuate that because your application is still being processed ... you did not get in..

I was told by a classmate that they will only tell people they got in online on their ucd account...and if a person didnt get it..it will say their application status that their app. is still being processed. Which in my opinion doenst make sense...but I just wanted to varify this.

We plan on finalizing and releasing freshman decisions around the middle of this month (late next week or early the following week). Transfer decisions will start to go out around that time but not all transfer decisions will be made at that time. The MyAdmissions site will tell you your admissions decision regardless of the decision. If the site states that the application is still being processed then the decision has not been made; this doesn't in any way mean that you will or won't be admitted. If your decision is not made then we have not had enough time to completely review your application. Good luck everyone.

UCD admissions...question about uc gpa....does a uc transferable community college class count as 1 semster or 2 semster of high school course?

Can I say Both?

GPA: You will only receive one grade for the GPA, so if you got a B in the course we only calculate one B, not two.

Subject Requirement: Most college courses will satisfy two (or more) semesters of the "a-g" subject requirement. For example, one semester of a "f-VPA" course will satisfy the two semester requirement; but is still will only give you one letter grade for your GPA.
