UC Irvine Admission Rescinded, Chances of Appeal?

Hi,
I've recently had my admission to UC Irvine rescinded and am wondering what the chances of being reinstated on appeal are? I ended up receiving 4 D's throughout my senior year.

I sent a message to my counselor regarding the situation and here is what she wrote:

You can submit a formal appeal by following the
withdrawal appeal instructions found at
Appeal Information.

Please keep in mind that the appeal committee has
met and discussed the process for fall 2012. The
decision is to hold firmly to the conditions
listed in the Freshmen Contract; especially poor
performance in the senior year.

Transferring as a junior is your best option.
Priority is given to junior level transfers from
the California Community College. The academic
strength of the pool has increased. I encourage
you to do your best academically.

So I have written an appeal letter:

To the Admissions Committee at the University of California Irvine,

I fully understand and regret that I have not fulfilled the conditions stated in the freshman contract, but I urge you to reconsider the withdrawal of my admission. There have been several disturbances in my life over the past months that had hindered my ability to perform in school. Nearing the end of the first semester of my senior year, my father had passed away from a massive heart attack. This tragedy had wreaked havoc at home for my mother, sister, and me. Having to cope with the loss of my father along with the unstable financial situation my family was put in had disoriented my focus away from my studies. My father was the main source of income for our family. His unexpected depart forced us into desperate measures in order to maintain our possessions. In order to help support my mother and sister, I began cashiering at a local department store approximately 30 hours a week. At the time I began working, I had not yet been accepted to UC Irvine, nor did I expect to be admitted. Thinking of what was best for my family, I began to direct my focus more towards working rather than towards school. By the time I had received my admission from UC Irvine in May, my grades had already suffered a toll. I was overwhelmed by the short amount of time I needed to raise my grades in, the emotional stress dealing with the loss and change in lifestyle, and spending so much time working. I struggled to keep up in school, but ultimately fell too far behind to meet the conditions listed in the freshmen contract. I understand that this is no excuse for my academic performance, but I urge that you take into consideration that I did the best I could in this unexpected and grim situation. I request that you reflect upon reinstating me under academic probation. I assure that if readmitted to UC Irvine, I will excel in my studies and achieve success, as I will not be working when the school year begins and I am slowly adapting to this dramatic change in my life. I have always dreamed of studying at UC Irvine, and it is unfortunate that such hardship at the very end of my high school career has interrupted my goals. I look forward to hearing back from the admissions committee.

Sincerely,
(Me)

Any suggestions or changes I should make to my letter, regarding both content and grammar?

Thanks

Send it ASAP, even if the grammar is imperfect.

Well Ilive 5 minutes from the campus so I can drop it by in the morning. Just looking to sort out any last minute errors before I do.

How about shortening it and putting in some paragraphs to make it easier to read? Also, add a letter from your school counselor confirming the situation.

Example:

I fully understand and regret that I have not fulfilled the conditions stated in the freshman contract, but I urge you to reconsider the withdrawal of my admission. There have been several disturbances in my life over the past months that had hindered my ability to perform in school.

Great edit, katliamom…that really did make a big difference in readability.

Thanks for the revision! It is definitely much easier to read.

Nice job, Katliamom. I hope the OP gets better news.

Just stopping by to say that my appeal was granted! Thanks everyone for all the advice!

That is great news…thanks for coming back to update!

aww that’s great! I’m so sorry you’ve been through so much :(

can you appeal a decision if you do not get accepted. like if you take the sat and do much better but they already rejected you?

I mean, it’s always possible to send a letter to the admissions committee asking to be reconsidered. The question is whether or not it will work, and if all you have is a new SAT score that’s highly unlikely.

Also, you should probably make a new thread for things like this.

ok thanks man

how do you make a new thread?

I’m so glad that your appeal was granted! I’m possibly thinking of appeal as well. Except for admissions decision /: I’m not sure if the college web accepts appeal because there is not any information on their website. Should I call or email? I feel awkward but it’s worth a shot to appeal even if the chances are extremely slim… Right?

Did you have to send any more information like documents?
