In November, I applied for 7 schools, including UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine, and San Jose State. My major is computer engineering, and UCSB is my first choice. Unfortunately I got put on UCSB’s waitlist. I sent an appeal letter but I’m not expecting anything. So I’m debating between UCI and SJSU. Which one of these two schools is better for computer engineering?
I’m not sure whether cost is a factor but I would say that if cost doesn’t dictate where you go, the go for UC Irvine. Irvine is more expensive, but higher up on rankings and although you shouldn’t base your decision strictly on rankings, I still think you should consider that since SJSU is largely absent from the rankings of the best schools in California. SJSU is great since its in silicon valley, however UCI just has a more prestigious ranking with access to businesses, alumni, internships, and research facilities. Don’t use my opinion though to base your decision. It’s ultimately up to you and whether you see yourself as a fit for one of these schools:)
SJSU, location is key. It opens doors to better programs for students. UCI is all about money and rankings. I used to attend there. I have a lot of friends in the CS program, they hate it. Go to SJSU, they have a very strong program with plenty of assistance and opportunities.
