UC Irvine v UC San Diego

nobody cares. uci=ucsd, and i have taken 2 quarters organic chemistry sequence there, and 2 quarters of physics.
there is no difference between the student populations in these classes, and uci=ucsd. get over it, my opinion is fact.

^ >> someone's a bit arrogant... Yes your opinion rules all I get it.... <<

Of course. I took two of the hardest classes of all time at both schools (I did one quarter of each at UCI too) and the students were exactly the same, except it seemed that the UCSD people studied more and did just as sh1t1lly.

UCI and UCSD even look like eachother. Same architect?

For biology, chemistry, liberal arts, poli-sci, and related areas, UCSD would be better. UCSD is generally more prestigious than UCI, although UCI does have some programs that are better (maybe dance or theatre).

UCSD should be less "socially dead" than UCI in general, but how you'll think about those schools is totally dependent on what kind of a person you are. I don't think either school is socially dead - it's because they're located in quieter suburban areas. It's only "socially dead" if you're more inclined towards bustling Berkeley and LA.

UCSD is almost always high ranked than UCI. While UCI compares itself to UCD and UCSB, UCSD is up there with UCB and UCLA. But just because it's highly ranked doesn't mean you'll do well or like it there.

Personally I'd pick UCSD over UCI due to location and academics, but both schools are great places to go to.

Think of UCI as UCSD's little brother. Both are pretty similar, but UCSD is an "upgraded version" of UCI.

Comparisons:
UCSD: right by the beach
UCI: a few miles from the beach
UCSD: 6-college system
UCI: no college system
UCSD: more competitive student body (avg. GPA = 4.07)
UCI: less competitive student body (avg. GPA = 3.94)
UCSD: enjoy SD, hidden canyons, and Mexico
UCI: enjoy LA, Orange County
UCSD: around 45% Asian
UCI: over 55% Asian (UC with most Asians)

More like twin brother.

And you generally don't use "prestige" and UCI or UCSD in the same sentence. That's just bizarre, and you know this yourself.

Most people do consider UCSD more prestigious than UCI, and it's a well-known fact that UCSD is competing with Cal and UCLA for some types of rankings, especially the hard sciences. UCI doesn't even stand up to Cal and UCLA.

UCSD is also harder to get into than UCI.

But more prestige does not mean the school better for YOU. Prestige and how good the school is for you are two totally different things. That's why some people choose Irvine over Cal.

Dude, that's like saying honda civic EX is more "prestigious" than honda civic LX. It's still a f***ing honda, you don't call honda "prestigious".

In other words, when you are comparing yourself to UCLA and CAL, UCI=UCSD.

Anyone else curious to see Dasherwinator's stats? So far I've seen nothing but crap from this cocky bastard. Clearly you are not a big fan of UCI, so what are you doing in UCI discussion forum?

i GO to uci

and while i think its a good school, i think its stupid to call ANY uc prestigious except for cal, and sometimes even LA

ok, i found your stats on the other thread.
So, it sounds like you got rejected from the good schools back in the day huh.
Sorry you have to suffer, alone in your greatness, at that inferior school UCI.

UCI is definitely a nice school. It probably wouldn't make too much if a difference if you went to UCI over UCSD. UCSD might be a bit "bigger" / higher-ranked than UCI, but it doesn't really matter. Irvine is a wonderful school, and UCSD by no means far better than Irvine.

All people are saying is just that UCSD is slightly higher-ranked, but rankings often mean very little.

UCI has the prestige of course, and it's a REALLY nice school. I'd be really happy if I were to go there.

acklements, I go to UCI for free (Regents scholar + achievement scholarship). good luck with life. I got into all the UC's, and also cornell. UCI offered me cash.

like all pro-mid-tier UC students, Dasher loves to bring UCSD down to UCI's level. If you have a set of stats in front of you, it's pretty clear that UCSD is smack dab in the middle of UCLA/UCB and UCI/UCD/UCSB

Overall ranks in the middle: UCLA: 25, UCSD: 35, UCI: 44.

To say that UCSD is UCI's twin brother is a bit much... almost on the same page as saying UCSD is UCLA's twin brother.

Will i be able to find similar "intellectual curiosity" at UCI as I would find at UCLA and UCSD?

I remember a while back some people saying how a lot of people who go to UCI just go there to graduate and that's it...

To tell you the truth, one of the major things that most people don't like is that the only UC with students who have any intellectual curiosity would be Cal. I know a lot of people at UCLA and they all complain about this. UCSD...well let's just say i thought I was at UCI when I visited it.
