UC Irvine v UC San Diego

^ agreed. However, I don't think the other UC's contain lower intellectual curiosity. You can find intellectual curiosity at any UC but you can find more and more unintelligent people when you go down the ladder.

I think UCSD and UCI are looked at very similarly.. UCSD is slightly more prestigious in rankings but in my opinion its all a matter of location preference. If you want to be located near LA and Newport Beach and all Orange County has to offer, UCI is a bigger draw than UCSD. But if you want to live near San Diego and Mexico, UCSD is the place to go.. I think it is all dependent on what major your are intending to have, because im sure UCI has higher ranked majors than UCSD, and vice versa..

^ In regards of everything I think UCI is way better in terms of

-Location
-Social Life
-Infrastructure

Even though both schools look very similar and are neck-by-neck in terms of prestige, UCI is a way more beautiful campus, not as boring, has a better location to the OC beaches and towns.
While UCSD is in la Jolla, u need a car to get to Downtown SD or Oceanside, takes like 30 minutes, the campus is rather odd looking and doesn't have an In-N-Out

UCI baby
(I am biased to UCI)

UCSD people like to say that it is far more prestigious than Irvine. I don't know why. Maybe they have inferiority complexes, maybe they are just delusional, who knows.

UCI is not looked at in the same light as UCSD, nationally speaking. UCSD has the upper hand in any of the sciences.

Location: You've apparently never been to Irvine, which is a predominately suburban BORING middle class city. There is NOTHING to do in Irvine, and to get any fun, you must drive to the outskirts of OC or to LA (Which isn't really that close). Cops are everywhere, which makes it safe, but they are annoying if you drive. San Diego (La Jolla) is expensive, downtown is fun but not really aimed towards the younger crowd.

Social Life: UCI is a commuter school. All my friends dormed their freshman year and then started to commute second year. You can't throw a massive party (Like UCSB/UCSC/UCLA) and get away with it in the city of Irvine. Irvine is quiet. UCSD is also boring as hell, the only promising thing is the closeness of the beach and SDSU parties.

Infrastructure: Both are ugly.

UCSD National Ranking: 35 UCI: 44 (with the other Tier 2 schools)
Both are still considered the "2nd Tier" of the UC system, shouldn't matter too much. Usually SD students are ****y about not getting into UCLA/Cal but UCI students are more lax about it.

^ That's personal opinion, personally, I've seen way uglier campuses than UCI and UCSD

Irvine is quiet, and yes, Newport is like 30 minutes-hour away in bus (If u don't have a car) but it's a hella lot more fun when u have friends and get to know people. My friend is in a frat and they do relly good parties, even though it is much more of a commuter school, there is stuff to do in Irvine. For people who like concerts, the verizon ampitheater is really close and the Irvine Spectrum is a hella nice place to go visit.

Who has apparently not been to Irvine? YOU? How is Irvine a “BORING middle class city”?
It was ranked 7th richest city in AMERICA 1 or 2 years ago. And like the previous poster said, there are plenty things to do in Irvine.

Infrastructure: if both are ugly, then name campuses that are “good looking”.

UCI students may be more lax about it b/c maybe more people were not even expecting acceptance from UCLA/CAL. And SD people are more bitter about it b/c they felt that they actually had a chance at those schools.

dasherwinator is 100% right. I go to school with this kid and he is the cream of the crop. And to point out, the difference between being ranked 35(sd) and 44 (UCI) is pointless. Nobody cares about the difference in rankings unless you are comparing harvard to sd/uci.

Could we please stop beating this dead horse of a thread?
