Hello all! I have recently been admitted to Cal Poly SLO for Environmental Management and Protection and UC Irvine for Environmental Science and Policy. I am leaning towards SLO because they have very specific courses to narrow down a career path, my exact minor (Indigenous Policy), and amazing paid internships in the area. They also get you started on your major work in your very first semester there. Even the class sizes are significantly smaller. As you can tell I’ve done my research and I haven’t found anything that really stands out to me at Irvine. Can anyone tell me anything? Will a degree from UCI look better in the eyes of a law school admissions officer or employer?
The name of the school will not matter, it is what you do at the school and the internships you participate in that will make the difference along with getting a competitive GPA.
Sounds like SLO is a very good fit academically so if the finances and social scene also work, then SLO should be your choice.
i went to cal poly slo once and the area was dark and groomy when I went, probably like around fall season
in terms of campus life, uci is much better,
(my thought)
THink about which school can the easiest land you top jobs (UCI=SLO here to me), Think about the location, which college is at the best location especially if you want to find a job there after four years (UCI), The money label may be true in most cases but the aid office differs by school to school too. Like a state uni thats less competitive in terms of rank likely has a less financial aid package for you. School with higher ranking may has a higher financial aid for you and cancels more and left less in its amount (UCI = SLO), Think about each’s national level ranking which affects tons (on USNWR).
Now left you to decide and look on the national rankings .
go to SLO if it suits YOU better.
congrats and good luck
