Hoping for good news in the next few weeks
I am sorry, I still do not know how to post a new link. Hope you are all well⊠I heard a rumor that people have been cut from the waitlist. I HAVE NO VERIFIED INFO - but, is it true?
Not sure what you mean by cut from the waitlist. If you are waitlisted by UCI, then you can opt into the waitlist or not. Anyone opting into the waitlist will be notified if they are admitted or if the waitlist is closed which means a rejection.
I am getting a lot of mileage out of this linked article and it sums up the waitlist process and tips of what you should do pretty nicely. Not specific for the UCâs but a good read.
Oh ok I misinterpreted what I heard.
I am a bit confused on the meaning of yield from the article. Since we are in our 2nd year of pandemic, colleges have most likely lowered the yield to accomodate? If they have, doesnât this mean itâll be harder to get off the waitlist? Sorry canât really wrap my head around this concept, would love to be corrected if i am wrong.
My DS was waitlisted for art major at UCI. It seems from reading last yearâs trend they had a very small number of people clear and the times varied. Wondering if anyone has any guidance on what % of the people who cleared, cleared in April vs. first half of May, second half of May⊠all the way to late August where those that didnât clear turned in to rejections.
Also assuming that somebody cleared the waitlist, do they send you an email notification? how long do you have to accept it (we just want to make sure not to miss it) but try to balance it with obsessively checking the portal and junk mail. I know my DS is hoping to clear and instantly accept but we as parents have to help with the emotional turmoil of maintaining a healthy positive outlook.
Yield only means the admitted vs enrolled students. Last year is an outlier so their yield was lower since many students decided to take a gap year due to Covid. Since the campuses are starting to open up, I expect more students to enroll so I believe waitlist admits will be lower than last year but higher than the year before. We will see if my prediction is right. You also have to include the 18% increase in applications this year so more students may be waitlisted and probably less admits.
Here is the 2020 waitlist data. Schools will starting admitting off the waitlist if their yield is lower than expected prior to May 1 but most will be admitting after that date.
Number of qualified applicants offered a place on waiting list: 18621
Number accepting a place on the waiting list: 11081
Number of wait-listed students admitted: 2664
Yeah, realistically, no one knows what could happen because of coronavirus.
Letâs all just hope for the best
Hi Gumbymon,
Do you know if the waitlist 2021 data is available right, if so. Where can I access that information?
Thanks
2021 Waitlist data will not be available until next January/February and it can be found on the Common Dataset Section C2. Since the SIR enrollment date is May 1, no statistical information will be available unless UCI will give out how many applicants they actually waitlisted.
Hi @Gumbymom, may I know where you got this information from? (maybe a link to the page where it says so on the UCI website) Iâve been searching for where it says this as I am currently a high school senior that got waitlisted by UCI, and I was wondering if I could send UCI a LOCI to increase my chances of admission - but I couldnt find the place on their website where this is specifically stated.
thanks!
Oh incase It wasnât clear, I was referring to your reply to @ stressedhskid87, where you said:
âFrom the UC Website: ** There is nothing that a student should or can do other than opt-in to the waitlist by the stated deadline. Any additional information submitted that was not requested by the campus will not be considered.**â
Again I would appreciate if you could link me the page on UCIâs website where it says this, thank you!
Here is the link for UCIâs updated policy on Appeals while on the Waitlist. Appeals | Office of Undergraduate Admissions | UCI.
The statement quoted was from last yearâs FAQ which I cannot find the link to for this year. You can call UCI admissions and ask but all UCâs state only send documents requested when you opt into the waitlist which would include an LOR. An LOR does not increase your chances on the waitlist.
I will also reference you to the Common Dataset Section C7 which shows UCI does not consider an https://www.oir.uci.edu/files/campus/CDS2020_21.pdfapplicantâs level of interest
feels a lot like a holding pattern, but all things equal itâs better than a rejection. good luck to all, and I hope UCI clears as many as possible of the waitlist.
My son was not accepted at any of the schools he wanted to attend although he was wait listed at UCI, UCSD, UCSC, UNC Chapel Hill and NYU. He wants computer science or math. GPA 3.67U, 4.37W, 4.52W (10-12), twenty AP or H classes, several AP tests with good grades, two computer courses at Stanford Summer Session, internship in computers at Northwestern University, Cyberpatriot team lead, development of websites, some freelance computer work, essays were deemed good by college entrance coaches. He is of course disappointed because he wanted to âhead offâ to college but is now looking at community colleges. Does it matter a lot which community college you attend if you want to transfer later to a UC school?
Check the various CC CS courses since not all CCâs will offer all the required Courses for transfer. Not unheard for students to attend a couple of CCâs to complete all the requirements.
Hi! I recently committed to UC Davis but am waitlisted @ UCI which is my #1 choice. I was wondering if anyone knows what the transition is like having already committed to one UC but switching to another one late in the game. Iâm worried that Iâll be too far into the process at UC Davis to switch to UCI if accepted off the waitlist.
The transition from UCD to UCI if accepted off the waitlist will really depend upon when you hear about your decision, how far along in the process you are with UCD and if housing is guaranteed due to the ever evolving changes with Covid. Unfortunately these are the risks associated with the waitlist.
