SOooooo
I was talking with my dad about uc berkeley and he was telling me "oh you know your cousin went there right?" and i was shocked!!

does this give one a leg up when applying at all or is it only if your immediate relatives like parents went to the school? or none of the above haha

Legacy is not considered in your UC application. Now if one of your parents was a member of the Alumni Program of that particular school it is looked upon favorably (kinda like an extra curric.) but don’t expect the old 19th century Ivy League, “So your last name is Rockefeller? Welcome to Yale.” The UC system didn’t become the number one public university system in the world doing admissions that way lol.

No legacy at the UC’s. All identifying information is removed from the application before it is reviewed by admissions. You get in on the strength of your application alone. Anything you disclose in your personal statement can be considered by the admissions office.
