Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?

Here is my situation. I really want to make sure I get into Berkeley. I have a 2210 SAT,ranked 8 out of 428 and have great ECs.

For my essay i want to write about my skill at and enjoyment of multiple choice tests. I would extrapolate that to show my strong analysis abilities and intellectual curiosity.

I guess my question is whether this is a bit too odd, and if my stats are good enough that a somewhat boring, solid essay about some extracurricular would be better.

I would say that you shoulnt write about multiple choice tests because it tells the essay readers that out of all your accomplishments/experiences/talents taking tests is your most valued.

Well, to be blunt, I don’t think you should have too much trouble getting into Berkeley if everything you said is true, regardless of your essay.

I’ve always believed that it’s not the topic of the essay that counts, it’s the execution of the topic that does. Some topics are just harder to make ‘good’ than others. With that said, I do think it might be more difficult to write a good essay about a multiple choice test. To me, at least, it might seem risky in that it may portray you as too ‘nerdy’ without much personality outside of academics.

Ultimately, though, please pick a topic that fits you best, and if that topic happens to be multiple choice tests, absolutely pick it. Above all, be honest to yourself and your interests in your essays.
