UC Riverside free application?

<p>Hi,</p>

<p>Recently, I've applied to UCLA and UC Berkeley - both of which rejected me ~ Sadly :(</p>

<p>I've maintained good grades, with a GPA of 4.5 weighted and 3.65 unweighted. My SAT isn't that great, but my school grades are - I took 6 honors courses in grade 11 and 4 APs this year.</p>

<p>Just a while ago, I received an e-mail from UC Riverside stating that they will let me apply to their university with a free application. I'm just wondering - since this university isn't really well known, and that I've heard its academics aren't great, can anyone enlighten me a little about what this university is well known for?</p>

<p>I'm planning on majoring in Biology, so I don't have much idea which university's offer I should accept as of yet. - Or I could go to UBC Vancouver, or University of Toronto, or McGill.</p>

<p>This is the e-mail I received (Did anyone receive one as well?):</p>

<p>Dear SHIEH,
You recently submitted an application for undergraduate admission to one or more University of California campuses. I have had the chance to review your application, and want to congratulate you on a truly outstanding high school career! As a result, I would like to offer you a one time opportunity to add UC Riverside to your UC Application (I’ll waive the $80 application fee, so it’s FREE to you) so you can be considered for admission to UC Riverside for the Fall 2012 term.
Once we receive your application, we will conduct a full review to determine your eligibility to the major of your choice. To be able to review your application, we first need you to let us know that you wish to be considered for admission to UC Riverside by saying YES (see instructions below). Please note that this is not a guarantee of admission but rather an opportunity to be considered for admission to a premier University of California campus that is:
1. One of the top public universities in terms of our graduates potential earnings!
2. One of the most popular Universities in the nation behind UC Berkeley and UC Los Angeles!
3. Ranked 29th in the WORLD in terms of Best Research University!
UC Riverside is inland southern California’s premiere research university and offers more than 85 degree programs. As the 6th most diverse university in the nation (U.S. News and World Report, 2011-2012), UCR students come from every corner of the globe. Our alumni include a two-time Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonist, an Academy Award nominated screenwriter, and a Nobel Laureate. Our business program is the largest in the University of California System, and we are planning to open the first new medical school in California in more than 40 years.
Say YES and add UC Riverside to your UC application by Monday, April 9, 2012. Here’s how:
1. Say YES to UCR by completing the opt-in form
2. Review UCR major offerings and select a major to which you would like to be considered for admission, and enter this into your opt-in form
That’s all! We will take it from there and provide you a decision as soon as possible.
Thank you for considering UC Riverside!

<p>Thanks for any replies!</p>

<p>Are you out of country or out of state? Then you might want to stay at your state school in Canada.</p>

<p>If you are interested in pursuing med school in the US, you might want to consider UCR as they are going to have a med school very soon. </p>

<p>I am biased towards UCR simply because I know folks at the campus there, in the sciences, and they are extremely dedicated and high quality. However, I’m not sure you would want to pay the out of state tuition when there might be equivalent quality schools in your own area.</p>

<p>Hi petersie879,
Im in the same boat and I also received the same letter did you get in UCR? what was the outcome?</p>

<p>UCR has a good quality biology department.</p>
