UC Riverside or Cal State Long Beach for Electrical Engineering?

Hey CC Engineering majors! I've been accepted to both UCR and CSULB for electrical engineering, and, assuming Cal Poly Pomona does not respond to me(It's already almost April 1st and I haven't heard ANYTHING from them even though I applied on the first day. It's my number 1 choice), I'll be attending either UCR or CSULB.

I've composed a short pros/cons list for each based on my situation.

UCR:

Pros
I can dorm(Dorming is HUGE for me. I'm a bit socially awkward here in high school, so I really want the opportunity to make life long friends and go through that "college experience" that people always talk about).
More "freedom"(I'd be coming home on weekends).
I've heard that UCR has a very solid EE program

Cons:
Costs would be WAY more than attending CSULB.

CSULB:

Pros
My parents have told me that they'd buy me a car of my choice.
I'd really only have to pay for tuition, since I'd be commuting from home, so I wouldn't be in as much debt as I would be at UCR.

Cons
I'd be missing out on the "college experience" that I lust for.
Less freedom.
I fear that I'd have trouble making friends and establishing relationships. I realize that college is what you make of it and that even with dorms I'd still need to put in the effort to make these said friendships, but the opportunity would obviously be easier with dorms.

That's just my personal pro/con list for each school. Education is by far my number 1 priority. UCR, I've heard, is pretty good in terms of engineering, but it comes at a fairly hefty cost and I'd be in debt. With CSULB, I wouldn't be in nearly as much debt. Any advice, CCers? I appreciate the help. Thank you!

I would say if you want to do research go to UCR. If you just want to go to school and get a job then Long Beach.

Both are pretty bad. I would go with UCR. Better for engineering I guess.

No they are not. They both have good engineering reputations and grads of both go to well known companies.

My parents put me in the same situation with the stay home go away thing with school, they offered me all sorts of stuff to stay home. In the long run for me I choose to go to csulb for electrical engineering because I truly wanted to go away its what I was set on doing. So, don’t think about what your parents want think about what’s best for you. Ill be a freshman in the fall
