***UC San Diego Class of 2020 Decisions Thread***

Nope…we are from WA state. Still waiting. My D got into UCD, waiting for UCSD @amy989

My D got into Davis too! Waiting on UCSD and Irvine now.

@amy989 - My D got an acceptance email on the 12th (portal updated on the 11th). We are OOS. Good Luck to you D.

@Mayzie Thank you!

By “Are you going to San Diego State?” Please remove San Diego State and insert UC San Diego as well as “CSU GPA” remove CSU and insert “UC” (despite of the UC GPA and the CSU GPA being the same), then insert the information if you are willing to give it out online. Sincere apologies from the OP, I was in charge of the San Diego State Class of 2020 thread as well.\

If there are any other mistakes I have made, please let me know. I am pretty sure everyone who has posted on here corrected it themselves. I cannot edit the first post due to College Confidential’s rules on editing. I will just repost this once per page.

[/ul]General Comments/Additional Information:
Denied with supplemental, appalling UCSD, very appalling. I am so glad I am not going here since they are pulling the UCI now. I only applied for my sister and that was it.,.I visited the campus and I didn’t really fall in love I was just like, “Oh, cool.” Still an amazing school though for a specific group of people, I’m happy that UCSD accepted my sister and that was her dream school! Thanks for the time, UCSD!!!

I seriously hate how undergraduate admissions put so much value into GPA and not the person itself, I hate it. :frowning: It’s so unlucky for people who have difficult lives.

[/ul]General Comments/Additional Information:
My extracurriculars, awards, etc. can be found on the Northeastern results thread.

I’ve gotten into UC Davis, Sac State, Cal Poly SLO, and Northeastern. Still waiting to hear back from UCSB, Tufts, George Washington, and American. I’m pretty bummed because I didn’t get a supplemental, meaning I was a solid “waitlist” candidate which doesn’t really make much sense to me but whatever. I will not be taking a spot on the waitlist because I don’t really see a point in waitlists tbh.

To those who were accepted- congratulations! To those who weren’t- I’m sorry. I was rooting for you. But UCSD’s decision doesn’t define you- and they don’t deserve us, anyway.

I am so saddened that I’ve been rejected to my first choice. I was accepted to SDSU, SJSU, CSU San Marcos, CSU LB, UC Davis, and UCI. Im still waiting for UCB and hoping for the absolute best. GL to everyone accepted!!! and to those on the same boat as I am, things happen for a reason, and perhaps ucsd is just not for us. Honestly numbers are not everything, UC’s were whack this year so ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. Hope this helps someone in the future. Stats were pretty average but i heard ucsd barely reads essays so…?

General Comments/Additional Information:
Tbh I’m not happy about getting waitlisted. I initially thought that my grades would be enough and I had some pretty good ECs to back me up too. Though after seeing a lot of competent people either get rejected or waitlisted I think that I still have a chance a Berkeley!

I was accepted to UCSD but rejected from the bioengineering department.
I don’t want to sound arrogant, but I think it is weird that UCSD bioengineering rejected me since I was accepted yesterday to Johns Hopkins BME
Until now:
Accepted: MIT, JHU (BME), UCLA (Bioengineering), UCSD (Nanoengineering)
Waitlisted: Caltech

Decision: Accepted

Objective:

SAT I: Didn’t take
SAT II: Math: 800
ACT: 32
UC GPA: Weighted: 4.35, UW: 3.87
AP: AP US Government (3), AP World History (3), AP US History (4), AP Chemistry (4), AP Psychology (4), AP Calculus AB, AP English Language (5)

Senior Year Course Load: AP Calculus BC, Physics Honors (self studying AP Physics I; no AP Physics offered), Orchestra, AP Biology, AP Environmental Science, AP English Literature
How were your personal statements? Rate out of 10, including the additional comments section: One was a 9/10, about transferring to another school; The other was a 6.5/10, just a generally decent essay about my Korean-American background and how it impacted my decision to go into biomedical engineering.

Living on-campus? Yes

Reflection
Strengths: SAT Math II Score, one really good essay, extracurriculars, background, difficulty of junior and senior courseload
Weaknesses: ACT score, GPA (it’s low for engineering)
Are you going to UC San Diego?: Maybe. I’m conflicted, though, because as an OOS student, tuition is really expensive and there’s hardly any financial aid. Also, I didn’t even get into the major that I wanted (bioenginering).
If not, where are you going?: Most likely UC Berkeley (if I get in) or instate honors college

General Comments/Additional Information:
I’m happy that I wasn’t waitlisted or rejected, but it still is disappointing that I didn’t get into the Biomedical engineering major. I love UCSD as a school, and I would love to go if it wasn’t so expensive and if I had gotten into the major that I wanted. Even still, I really like molecular synthesis and I think that even though it was my alternate major, I would really like it at UCSD, since that specific major is unique to UCSD and I think I would get more personal attention if I went into Molecular Synthesis than if I went into bioengineering. Also, I’m not really sure if I would like bioengineering better or Molecular Synthesis better, so I guess I would just have to wait until I hear from Berkeley to start making a decision about whether I want to go or not.

I was accepted into Warren for Computer Science! I’m shocked because of how hard it is to get in for that major. Probably won’t attend since I’m OOS :frowning:

UC GPA : 4.45
