They acceptance rate is higher. They need to admit many more than the amount of spots. Not everyone will accept.
That’s the number of spots. They’ve to admit around 30K students to keep in line with their yield rate

UCSD tends to accept about 25,000 - 30,000 applicants every year. They know not everyone will commit to UCSD.
I think they are undercutting acceptances tho bc of covid and its uncertainty like most schools.
